Points not declared on insurance policy

My car has been deemed uneconomical to repair by the insurance company and was instructed to forward some documents which included my drivers licence. The response i got stated that i had failed to declare some points convinctions on my policy.Prior to taking out my insurance policy i advised them that i have points pending to be added onto my licence and went ahead to purchase online. After a few months i contacted them to notify them of changes to my direct debit information & points on my licence but i never received any corespondence through the post to confirm this but noticed the change of my direct debit information whilst managing my policy online. Also, my policy excess states £250 but doesnt clearly show that under 25 yr olds pay an extra £200.The accident was deemed my fault because i hit the other partys rear even though the driver in front of me stopped unexpectedly in order to avoid another reckless driver and my insurance company says the law doesnt allow me to contest this.Presently my claim has been forwarded to the insurance companys' head office whilst i wait for an outcome. What are the possible ramifications i am going to encounter to get a settlement considering my car still has 2.5 yrs finance left ?any comments would be appreciatated.

If you are lucky enough to prove you did inform them of points, you will only have to pay the £250 +£200 excess and pay off the finance, they will offer you market value.

If you can't prove it, they may not pay your claim, you will still have to pay the finance. They may also chase you for extra premium in respect of the increase they would have put on for the points.

In respect of hitting a car in the rear, 99.9% it's your fault.
