    Please help!!!

My parents are currently with virgin with cable box and phone calls. Originally with NTL but without knowledge were taken over by Virgin. Please can anyone help them make the right choices as they want broadband and better package on calls and to move from Dial up to small to medium use Broadband. They have the cable connection which is used now but everyone wants a BT line to conect to something new. Years ago they were a BT customer and still have an ariel although unconnected on they're roof which they are worried about having anything instaled that may need to go on wall causing damage Confused I am. What would be best for them ie: to get a broadband and telephone package with Virgin to save changing cable about and maybe upgrade tv, or to incorporate all 3 with someone like Sky.

many thanks -a stressed out caring daughter !!!!

I was with Onetel for a considerable time, and eventually they were taken over by TalkTalk. Because I had heard so many dreadful stories about TalkTalk's service I resisted all their attempts to switch me over. But inevitably I eventually did so and have been on TalkTalk since last July. Well, in my case it has been totally painless and everything happened exactly as it should. Financially it must be unbeatable: I now get broadband, with a very generous usage allowance, telephone line cost included, and free phone calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including 36 overseas destinations - virtually the whole of Europe, USA, Australia, Canada etc. The cost of all this is just £20.99 a month - just about half what I was paying Onetel and BT for a much less comprehensive service.

So while I might just have been lucky, all I can say is, this was the best move I could have made.

Regarding the tv, I have a freeview digital tv which copes with all I could possibly want to watch.

    Hi,

Im with Virgin, and they have a good package, it £30 for broadband, tv package and telephone with free weekend calls.

Id give Virgin a call let them know your thinking of leaving them and see what they can offer to keep your custom.

    Good luck

BT has good offers on phone and broadband plus there are all sorts of interactive offers that can be added on top of that for a little fee, such as satallite television and many other homeservices that are added plus the equipment is of good quality and you get it free,,,,,,,, sounds good, why not check them at BT.com

    Re: Please help!!!

Yer, but what about the constant loss of Internet which goes down every few minutes on quite a few occasions? Like you I was with Onetel. I had no problems with my telephone line (often bleeps with TalkTalk while I am on the phone - are they 'bugging me') or the Internet when I was with them but since being with TalkTalk the line goes down constantly losing Internet and giving the 'error page' which I would think was because of the amount of people subscribing and online I suppose, and although I am always thinking of changing providers and TalkTalk advising they will call me with reference to this problem they never do and I never do either - through the sheer 'cheapness' of it!

    Re: Please help!!!

Well, I must say I have never had those problems, either on the phone or the internet. I wonder if it is due to the capacity of your local exchange. Perhaps you are not getting anything like the speed you think you are. I am supposed to get 8mb, but it's never more than 2.5, though that works very well. The only problem I've had recently is an almost total malfunction of Internet Explorer. Eventually I found it was due to Windows Live Toolbar being installed (which I didn't know) and this is totally incompatible with IE7. But I changed my browser to Firefox, which I think is better anyway. Once I had removed Windows Live Toolbar, IE returned to normal, and no further problems. So I guess it's the luck of the draw, and I certainly have had nothing but success with TalkTalk so far.
