Pet Insurance - Whats The Point?

After watching a piece on GMTV last week i was astounded to find that the fastest growing crime in Britain is Dog Napping - What is the world coming to? Sad as it must be to have your dog napped, i cant believe that people are paying to insure their pets.

Would be interested to hear from anyone who has taken out a policy and if they have ever had to make a claim....

Re: Pet Insurance - Whats The Point?

pet insurance is a good idea if you own pedigree dogs or cats and have heavy vets bills. My dog has had a bad skin complaint that was difficult to diagnose but he was eating at his skin and making it raw, he had to have many courses of anti biotic and skin tests and grafts to get to the bottom of it. We were refunded the amount we had to pay for the treatment minus the % the insurance company charges so it is worth it for £9 a month or whatever the premium is. Also if your pet is sick you will be worried anyway, last thing you need is to worry where to find the money to pay for the costs of treatment.

    Hi attitude

Tesco and Direct Line seem to be quite competitive at the moment.  I was with Direct Line last year but have renewed with Tesco this year.  I pay £8.70/month for a 2 year old Labrador.

    Kind regards

You'd be surprised what these dogs can do - I've just had a quote from Argos pet insurance - £5.90 per month - looks like a ok policy too -

LOL.  I wish ... a dog chauffeur - how nice that would be.  If ever you ended up in road rage, the dog could bite them and chase them off.

If my dog could drive she'd drive much better than the hubby, 1. because she's a female and 2.  because she wouldn't 'tail'gate (no pun intended).  ;o)

Attitude, £5.90 sounds good to me.  Vets' fees can run into hundreds of pounds very easily should your pet need treatment and for £5.90/month it's one less worry for you.

    Kind regards

Pet insurance is ok but you still have to be prepared to pay the initial bill, while taking one of my dogs to the vet's for yet another skin complaint (due to a wheat allergy) a man was collecting his dog the receptionist asked the gent for £2,200.00 I thought I was going to have to give the poor man mouth to mouth, he like many others I imagine was not aware you have to pay first claim later.

I shop around for my pet insurance as I have two dogs and it is quite expensive, I found it a bit cheaper because my girls are chipped Tesco have been ok £11.50 per month for both dogs.

DD, LOL - why is it men can't ask for directions - they're all the same - it must be a 'man' thing?!!!  Come on JJ, Shark, Rich, RGB, CMK and anyone else I've missed out - why can't you ask for directions?

DD, I've thought of something else a dog chauffeur would be useful for.  When you've had too much too drink, you can blow a whistle, they can sniff you out in the pub, lead you to the car and drive you home and won't sit in judgement on you.  They won't give you any grief for drinking too much and making a 'show' of yourself and the next morning you wouldn't be in the 'dog' house (as I always am)!!!  LOL.

Joycey1 - I didn't realise you had to stump up the cash up front for the vet.  OMG, that could cause problems if the pet had a serious condition.  I thought the vet claimed it back from the insurer.  I think I need mouth to mouth now!!!

    Kind regards

    Oh Indi

One day you will realise the joy of having kids that can drive!

I bargin with them that I will come and collect them when they have had a skin full if they will do the same.

Its fantastic!. NO 2 turns 18 on Friday and is having driving lessons for his birthday. If/When he passes I will have 2 chauffeurs, how great is that?

Re: Pet Insurance - Whats The Point?

DD, Two chauffeurs - marvellous!  I knew my kids would come in handy for something one day.  Just a thought though - when your son passes his test and is able to drive you around - will he be expecting you to buy him a car?  ;o)

Hope all's going well with your preparations for the party at the weekend.

    Kind regards

If I knocked on your car window asking for directions, the dog who you trained to drive your car might bite me !!!!

Anyway he's only 2 year old, how can he have his licence already ?  : - )

Re: Pet Insurance - Whats The Point?

We will cross that bridge when we get to it. Mind you, bless him, he works as well as goes to college and saves really well. If he wants something , he saves and then gets it. He has already saved to go on a climbing holiday to Spain next month. He saved what he needed in 5 weeks and just has to find the spending money, with 3 pay packets to go. So, when it comes to a car he will probably set his sights on something, save and get it himself.

He went out today and brought me flowers for his birthday as I'd done the hard work 18 years ago. He will go far, had a little weep I have to admit.
