I made two transactions using my Santander debit card at the end of October that took me over my overdraft limit. I am aware that I have a monthly arranged overdraft fee and that going over my limit will incurr an additional fee however on checking my bank statement I have not only been charged these two fees but also been charged a paid item fee of the same amount (regardless of transaction amount) for the two transactions that took me over my limit in the first place. This evidently has taken me further over my overdraft limit!! Besides which, surely the whole point of an overdraft limit is that you can't go over it??

I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this and if it is actually right for my bank to actually do this. The more charges they make to my account, the worse it is going to get!! Plus I'm now worried that they are going to charge me even more next month for going further over my limit due to their charges! Please help!
