Re: Opening Student Accounts in UK

I have found a company via a google search called Quick Start UK who will assist non-UK residents in getting set up with a bank account when they come to the UK. There is a set up charge for this from around £35.00 but they will liaise with the provider to help her get the account started up.

    Good luck
    Peter

That's the point though, she probably will not be treated as a resident for a while. Do you have any ideas as to the best deals for people not considered resident? Anyone?
    Cheers

A look at our current account finder, then selecting Student/Young Peoples accounts should help you find the best account as these are listed here, togther with their benefits, fees, rates etc.

All accounts are only available to citizens and residents of the UK which with your daughters international status she'll need to check her eligibility with her chosen provider.

Has she also considered a pre-paid card, which you can load money onto to cover her expenses?

    Opening Student Accounts in UK

I am British born and bred, but have been living in HK for 20 years. My daughter is going to study in London in September. She is a British born, UK passport holder, but has been living in HK with us of course. We no longer own property in UK as we sold a few years ago. My daugher did not get home status, and so we are paying international fees: 9000 quid a year and all her living expenses, it's a huge burder, I really don't know how I'll manage in two years, when her sister has to go to college. That will be nearly all my income, and I don't think I am so badly paid. I don't know how other folks manage. My daughters are not entitled to student loans because of their international status. But that's just my ulcer moaning, not my question.

    My question is:
What is the best student bank account my daughter can get. I hear it is more difficult for non-residents to open accounts. I want an account that does not charge a monthly fee.
