    Re: Less Than Perfect.co.uk

Hi and thanks for the advice, although it does sound too good to be true, I'll have a look!

Thinking about it, iggy and his preferred website probaly charge all that money just to tell people the same thing perhaps!

    Hmmm.....

    Thanks again!

    Re: Less Than Perfect.co.uk

    Hi,

I have been paying into my IVA for almost a year, and only have a cash card.  If you have an IVA is it that banks wont give you a debit card, or is that you are not suppose to have a debit card as part of the terms and conditions of the IVA?? Im Still a bit hazy around that subject?  I included all my bank accounts in my IVA so have been left without a debit card.  Can anyone reccommend any banks that might allow me just to have a debit card, with no credit on the account such as an OD or Cheque Book if I have an IVA..?

On another note, I noticed a few comments about www.lessthanperfect.co.uk, I did have a look as I was interested as one would be, however I immediately noticed that they were offering a pre-paid mastercard for only £49.99.  The thing is I already applied for this a while back after coming across another website.  It was free to apply, however there were some administration costs such as paying for the actual mastercard etc, it was nowhere near £50, and lessthanperfect were even advising that an additional £10 is required to cover the cost of the creditcard?  So they are expecting you to pay £60 for something that cost me £15?

I think its safe to say that, as with many companies on the internet, they are just someone else trying to take advantage of people who cant afford to part with the money in the first place.

by the way, the company that offers pre-paid mastercards is www.cashplus.com, but be warned, its not cheap to actually use the mastercard once you have put money onto it as for some strange reason, even though its not a creditcard as so to speak, they still charge you for transactions and I think a montly fee, worth a look though as it might be useful for some

    Re: Less Than Perfect.co.uk

    Hi Smedders,

Not sure exactly if this would help you but you can apply to the Co-operative Bank for thier Cashminder Account. It is basically a basic account with no credit facilities at all but you can do all the usual things like DD's etc.

Also quite handily they will issue a Visa Electron Card. This means you have the means to run a near normal account!

    Hope this helps

    Thanks Carey,

I applied for a Natwest account yesterday online, it said it was agreed in principle and they are going to send out documents for me to sign, sounds to good to be true so thinking after some further checks they might decline the application, however I was completely honest on the application and it didnt ask anything about my IVA, just whether I had been bankrupt.  Fingers crossed ey!

I will keep the co-op in mind however

     Thanks for the info.

    Re: Less Than Perfect.co.uk

    Hi Ian,

You obviously have been in a bit of a scrape recently with your credit score. If you have defaulted very recently it may be that the banks are looking at your last 3 months record to see what has been going on and then making a decision based on that information. They see it as, 'well, if he didn't pay that bill in the last 3 months will he be able to pay in the next three months?'

Also, each time you apply, as you know that search shows up as well, which again, doesn't always help!

So, if your credit score problems are a little older than 3 months and you seem to be settling back into a routine then you can try the co-operative bank and apply for the cashminder account. It is a basic account without any credit facilities but they will issue a visa electron card. This means you'll have all the benefits of a current account but without any overdraft facilities or cheque book. It is a good start if as you say you're struggling at the moment!

On the downside, the bank charges for going into the red or missing a payment are quite a bit higher than a standard account. Use it well and they might upgrade you to a current account in the future!

Another option is the ABBEY Basic Account! Same as above but only issue a cash card but you can still have dd's and wages paid in!

    Hope this helps!

    Re: Less Than Perfect.co.uk

Smedders, good for you! Which NatWest account did you apply for and what facilities did you get?

Had a strange dream the other night where I went into a Natwest branch and was given a cheque book, and I then remember floating out of the branch delerious!! ha ha

Honestly, very strange but maybe I should try soon!

    Re: Less Than Perfect.co.uk

Just a warning to all postees, i had a Natwest Current account for 17 years, all of that time i was, and still am in receipt of state benefits, i had an arranged overdraft of £2200.

I got scammed by some unscupulous eBay Fraudster, and Natwest closed my Account " OVER THE PHONE" They admitted on the phone that a Bank Transfer which i had paid in for £4000 had been declared fraudulent (unknown to me at the time BUT....and i didn't spend the £4000..or even touch it) they Bounced it TWICE IN THE SAME Week...consequently i was then nearly £8000 overdrawn...THEIR FAULT NOT MINE........obviously they wouldn't admit to this, but online banking statements dont lie.....so as to their television advert " Natwest "Another Way" i would advise the " Other Way" would be GO ELSWERE!!.....

Just a personal experience, but they are very expensive with regards to many other Banks, plus WHEN they close your account they dont HAVE TO DISCUSS ANY REASON.....just Beware of Them, they are not so squeaky clean!

    Re: Less Than Perfect.co.uk

wow!!!  so much to learn and ive learnt loads already just by reading your comments. Thats everyones comments! Probably like a lot of you I have had issues with 1 Bank and am now in the process of claiming my charges back! This bank wont allow me an OD facility at all and I have been no more than £70 OD and that was for 2 days! My worst was being OD by £1.19p and the charges ended up being nearly £200 Thanks Halifax! Whichever Bank you choose just make sure it isnt this one! I have spoken to loads of people with similar problems and 1 friend actually managed to claim back £4000 from them. I have a brother who is a B to B bank Manager and Im going to see what his thoughts are on this whole c**p deal that anyone with a few issues of debts etc are!!! should be enlightening!

    Re: Less Than Perfect.co.uk

    hi carey

yea i was young and at the age of 18, you think wow!! i can get a credit card and a contract phone and an overdraft and a store card!! and then your out of ya depth, i found myself just running away from my debts. then i started working for a bank, which has made my realise, i need to sort my debts out..

i have a halifax easycash account with a visa electron card, but i have recently claimed back my bank charges and they haven't been the same with me since.

i have been looking at other forums EG. moneysavingsexpert.com there is a forum on there that talks about the yorkshire bank offering an account called readycash, which offers a Maestro card, although they do carry out a credit check they DO not credit score, a few ppl from the above forum have explianed how they got the account opening on the same day and then receiving the card within a week.

please can you give my your thoughts..

    thanks for your help

    Hi Everyone

I have been reading postings regarding business bank account with interest.  Yes, you are right as regards to Nat West, had the account closed and was told not to approach any of the RBS group, very final.

My husband opened a business bank account (self employed) with Lloyds TSB got a debit card, cheque book and online facilities but no overdraft or credit facilities.   He has IVA.  I thought I share that information.
