DVD's are coded to help prevent piracy, they will only play in certain countries depending on the code number they have. Region 0 is for USA/Canada, while region 2 is for the UK & Europe, so you need region 2. You can unlock your DVD player so it will accept all discs, but I won't advertise how to in public.

    Dear conmankiller.

    thank you for your response.

I've read ,that there are two editions from this movie.

First one for 229 minutes (3 hours 49 minutes)

The second  for 139 minutes (2 hours 19 minutes)

we can have a look to this link :

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_Upon_A_Time_In_America

so, If I'd like to buy the longest one ' 229 mins' , how could I know which it the longest one ?

    cheers

Re: Once upon a time in America

K.O.R. --- According to that wilkipedia link (extract below) the American version is the shortened film, and the European version is the full length film, so you will need to buy the Europe edition region 2, to get 229 min runtime, it should also play in your DVD player straight away as it's the correct disc for this Country.

Hope that helps you -- Good luck.

The film premiered to great acclaim at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival at its original running time of 229 minutes (3 hours 49 minutes). It was released in the United States in a heavily edited and truncated version, against Leone's wishes, almost ninety minutes shorter than the original version released in Europe. The short version eliminates the flashback structure of the film, instead placing the scenes in chronological order.

Re: Once upon a time in America

    Just spotted this but....

The US and Canada are region 1 not region 0.

Anything labelled region 0 means its is not locked. Region 0 plays on any machine.
