What was the debt for and was it secured. ?
Right here goes, firstly have a look at this recent thread from start to finish, then if there are any circumstances that significantly differ or you have problems post back here, but assuming you have no court orders in place alraedy then you can write to the creditor saying you now consider the debt, "statute barred" under the six year no contact rules of the, limitations act 1980 which means that a court will not enforce the old debt because it has, "timed out".
