Re: debt from a current account

badmemory --- How apt is that name in your situation. ?    :-)

What was the debt for and was it secured. ?

Right here goes, firstly have a look at this recent thread from start to finish, then if there are any circumstances that significantly differ or you have problems post back here, but assuming you have no court orders in place alraedy then you can write to the creditor saying you now consider the debt, "statute barred" under the six year no contact rules of the, limitations act 1980 which means that a court will not enforce the old debt because it has, "timed out".

Also have a look at the limitations act below, from the UK Insolvency helpline.

Re: Old debt from a current account

Found your site for the first time tonight, I hope you can help me. I have been contacted by Mackenzie Hall saying I owe them £10917.23. This is from a debt to the original creditor HSBC from June 1999, resulting from the closure of a business. The closure was put into the hands of an insolvency practicioner, I did not go bankrupt, and I personally have recieved no communication from HSBC since that time. The first I new about this debt again was in October 2007 when my neighbour recieved a phone call from an unidentified number and caller asking for me to ring a number he had been given. This turned out to be go debt.co.uk. After a phone call to them by me they apologised saying that on their record the debt had been wrote off by HSBC in 2003 and they would contact me no more. Now letter dated 30th November 07 from the named above saying REDUCED SETTLEMENT OFFER £8187 .92 to be payed by noon 10th December. Unfortunatly I have rung the number given on the letter asking how they have got my personal details and told them the debt was wrote off nothing else. They have asked for confermation of this. Can you help and advise me.
