Ask them for a breakdown, but to be honest if you ignored the account from before they wont reduce anything.

That may account for part of the £65.99. But when I say I complained last year, what I in fact suggested was that they just charge one of the houses with one admin charge and I heard nothing more.

If £23.50 is colection charges for last year, it still leaves a very high admin fee. My post was to ask for suggestions how to approach npowerregarding a reduction or even a waiver...can oyu help??

I wonder if there has been some administrative stupidity from Npower. There is only only supply and it should only be billed to one customer, normally a managing agent but in this case you don't have one. Tariff leaflets used to include unmetered supplies, typically stair lighting. Haven't had time to look but wouldn't be surprised that £60 per single supply is about right. Probably not worth it as individual aerials are a way forward.

Unfortunately I think you may have missed the window to get out without charge. That was when they first increased the charge if it was done without notice. Not paying is never a straighforward option, ignoring debt chasing even less so.

I would say there should only have been one charge and refunds are in order if you push. Except for those who didn't pay!

Ask nicely and then hit them with a formal complaint.

It's an unmetered supply, estimated. The admin charge first appearred last year, I have always paid the charge (it is levied annually) prior to last year.

It is described as Administration, no mention of collection charge oor sign on line tariff. anyway a collection charge wouldn't make sense for the admin charge last year. There are no readings as it is unmetered. I don;t have a problem with the charge ofr consumption as it is only 69 PENCE!!

    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes £65.99 on each house. About 20 years ago the householder of the property hosting the amplifier arranged for the rest of us to be recharged, at that time the charge was about a couple of quid each , with no admin fee, so I thought it only fair.

I don't have a problem with paying for the energy, it is the admin charge that has been introduced in the last two years that I am unwilling to pay. Particularly, as you point out, that there is no metering.

Yes I think an aerial is the solution if I can't get them to credit the admin fee.

Reason for the post was for advice on how to approach the problem with Npower.

    Many thanks

Are you saying that Npower are levying a £65.99 admin fee on every house? That would be ridiculous. For a single supply, maybe that is what they charge. You need to examine the supply agreement. The amplifier comsumes so little power it's not worth metering and can easily be estimated accurately. Ditto stair lighting in a block of flats. Normally such a shared service would be managed by an agent but perhaps as it's a terrace you don't have one.

Somebody must have agreed to host the aerial and arranged the shared supply for the amplifier. Maybe individual aerials would be cheaper.

I think that you must be on a sign online tariff, plus £23.50 collection charge for failure to pay. If you pay your account then you wouldnt get them. If you get an estimated bill check the readings.

npower excessive admin charge - £65 for 69p consumption !

I live in a terrace of 6 houses & we share a TV aerial & amplifier, the latter located in the roof space of the middle house (not mine). Each year we each receive an invoice for estimated energy consumption of a couple of pounds. Last year npower added an administration fee of approx £60. I complained by phone two or three times when they started chasing the debt & heard no more. No payment was made.

Two of my neighbours received invoices, one paid (by DD) the other did as I did.

I have now received this years' charge of £0.69 for energy consumption & £65.99! for administration, plus VAT of £3.33 giving a total of £70.01..

Do I have a case to claim this is an excessive charge in view of the consumption (it being an estimate, no reading is made)?

    Many thanks
