drummie --- If you're confused by all the jargon and technical specifications of wheels and tyres along with all the ratings, markings, load index and tread patterns etc....the wheel & tyre bible below just about explains it all, if you're keen to understand further.

Goodride's cheap, particularly if you have four at a time but as you so rightly and hurtfully allude to I have to be careful with my 'size and spec / speed rating' problem... Wait till you get to my age (an outstandingly stupid command because if you wait you'll never get to my age) and see if you have 'the correct speed & load index'.

BUTT seriously though much appreciated as usual, particularly the last paragraph.

Hmm, note to self connie v helpful but must stop asking him questions cos I get so upset at the biting comments that go with the crash hot advice! Hmm, second note to self, if like a junkie I can't give him up, I must remember to wangle into our next communication that everyone says I look much younger than I am. They do you know, yes they do!

    drummie --- Try http://www.mytyres.co.uk/start.html

They are cheaper than I can find anywhere on the web and lots cheaper than the high street tyre centres, they have reviews and road tests on every tyre they offer for sale (many). Even for, "last of the Summer wine" posers in convertibles. : -- )

I usually have them delivered by their couriers which is still lots cheaper, then get my local tyre centre to fit & balance at a tenner each.

Put the same size and spec / speed rating that you are currently running stated on the tyre sidewalls or car drivers doorframe into the site search engine. it's very important that the correct speed & load index is fitted to your car as it affects safety, reliability and handling, also the wrong spec tyres could invalidate your insurance.

My new used car will need new tyres soon. I've looked online under 'reviews' and got a bit of information but there are very few websites that sell tyres and virtually none that supply and fit nationally or regionally. I've been into my local KwikFit but the reviews of KwikFit are pretty awful, National are better but not brilliant.

    WHAT I WANT

I want a smooth, cheap, quiet, lower fuel usage tyre for a Saab 900 S Convertible. My boy racer days are over so speed ratings are of no importance. The 'review centre' has twelve reviews of MICHELIN ENERGY (available at KwikFit) and it comes out at 6.9 out of ten and basically energy efficient, no noise problem, long lasting.

All suggestions appreciated (if they're personal please make sure they're physically possible :-))
