    sallybonsai,

Most PPM tariffs do carry a standing charge to help cover the so-called "maintenance costs" of these meter types. However, there are plenty of PPM tariffs without standing charges and so it's well worth doing a comparison to find the right tariff for you.

The best PPM tariffs on the market can be found with a supplier called "EBICo". They do not have an apply button with most comparison sites but do the comparison first to confirm whether they are the best for you and then go to their site directly to apply. (Link: http://www.ebico.co.uk/index.php).

    Hope this helps.

You might find this out by putting your details into a an energy switching website, and putting down a very small consumption. Then look at the 'unit prices' of the cheaper suppliers and you will see which if any has no service charge.
