no claims bonus on one car only?

Can one of you clear this up for me, why when you ring up to insure a second or even third car you can not with a few say you have no claims because its being used on another car and they wont accept that none of the insurance companies could justifi it, apart from being an easy few hundred or in my case few thousand pounds extra to go toward the companies christmas bonuses. I dont understand why when you have a second car you instantly have no year no claims thats the same as saying you have claimed with in the year where if you have not claimed on the first car you still have not claimed for that x number of years it just does not make sense.

Some companies will match the NCD from your 1st car, if you insure a second car in your Wife/Partners name. Ask around.

Try MoreThan; they covered me for two cars with matching NCD, with my wife as a named driver on both policies.

How do you suggest that they keep upto date with the no claims bonus(es) if they are on two, three, four or five cars etc.? Currently the only way of proving the NCD is by letter or renewal notice from the Insurer - after a cancellation or when the policy is due to expire. They will never release proof of NCD whilst a policy is in force or likely to be in force for some time.

    Hi,

Like some people have already said, No Claims Bonus can only be used on one car at a time, however if you were to buy a second car, some companies will match this discount, however if you were to leave them after a years cover, providing you have not had any claims, they will only give you proof of 1 years No Claims as you have only been with them for this amount of time.

    :-)

well I dont know if I am the only one to notice but when people insurance a car with false details and they have a accident they all seem to be quick enough to find a discrepency in there insurance history regardless of who they were insured with before hand, so as they can clearly and easily find out your insurance history from other companies then they can do the same for ncd besides when your paying over 2k on your cheapest policy the minimum I would expect is a form of service that matches the amount paid and as services go they can do a lot more work dont even get a free pen with the policy these days anymore.

If they can't give you a no claims bonus ask for an introductory one. Have you driven a company car previously. Some insurers will count the time you drove a company car without an accident towards a NCB. Can I ask what car you are trying to insure and your age?

Re: no claims bonus on one car only?

I am 19 with two years no claims currently have a mini insurance group 15 with the two years no claims and I cant add the new car to the mini policy as I have my mg on there so have been told can only have one additional car on the policy.

Current price is 2k Mini and few hundred extra to add MG for max of a month each year. looking to get a small engined 4x4 either a cayenne the v6 one, a 3.0td range rover or the touareg 3.2 or 2.5l need to tow heavy items reason for buying.just most companies I have tried have said they wont accept the fact that i have two years no claims as is used on Mini as I am 19 the cost is around the 4,000 pound mark where as with the no claims would be less then two.

I think it will be very difficult at your age and the type of car. If you are only going to use the car occasionally it might be possible for your parents to insure and add you on as an additional driver. However, the car must be registered in their name and they must use it. (A possibility)

Re: no claims bonus on one car only?

    Hi,

Kev is right in what he is saying that the vehicle you want to insure is a high group vehicle and your age will go against you, however I have to say that even if you did insure it in your parents name with you as a named driver, if there is more than one vehicle in the family, it will automatically be rated on your age any way, so you would be better off insuring it in your name so that you could at least start earning the extra bonus on this vehicle.

Have you tried calling a local broker who would have the means to run all your details through, as they often deal with a varied amount of companies that would accept the fact you have 2 years no claims bonus on your other car.?
