No claim bonus not accepted after quote was provided

    Dear Andy

I have also sent you a letter on this. I obtained a quote from moneysupermarket.com and specified my no claim bonus of over 10 years. The system (moneysupermarket or hastings essential) did not inform me that no claim bonuses were not accepted if it was outside of the UK or Europe. I accepted hastings essential quote and paid the full years premium. It was only after week when I queried something else with hastings that they informed me that the no claim bonus had to be within the UK or Europe. They then amended the insurance cover, charged me for the amendment and increased the poilcy by an additional some £64. Surely this cannot be. Either they should have informed me when I was transferred to their site, before I accepted the claim, that the no claim bonus must be from the uk or Europe and I would be charged extra for that. Furthermore, moneysupermarket should state that no claim bonuses may not be accepted by the insurer and the client should check with the insurer before they accept the quote. This is unfair and not correct.

I have queried with other insurers and they were prepared to take the no claim bonus from outside the uk and europe.

When I phoned in to Hasting Essential to cancel the policy as they did not inform me of the no claim bonus not being accepted, they want to charge me £45 for cancellation. This is a rip-off.

Could you please provide me with your view on this as I feel that it is their fault for not informing me at the start of the quotation that I the no claim bonus outside the UK or euope would not be accepted. Had I known this, I would have looked for another insurer as the no claim bonus does reduce your premiums.

I want to cancel the policy and go to a insurer who is prepared to take my no claim bonus but I feel that I should not be liable for any charges as I have not been informed upfront of no claim bonus.

    Regards
