Hi all, having a terrible time trying to organise a mortgage for my fiancée and myself. We have had an accepted offer on the house and the move in date is in 18 days time and we're going through hell trying to organise our mortgage, really looking for some options here, not sure what we can do!
To let you know a little more about the situation, basically we applied to the Abbey around a month ago for a residential mortgage for the both of us and a buy to let for my own flat. Just recently they came back and told us that they can't do the residential part any more due to the fact my fiancée is on a probationary period which ends at the end of october. 2 weeks too late! I'm just so frustrated that they won't budge on it, but what can we do? They seem to be willing to go ahead with the mortgage, but it's just this probation period that is in the way!
We're thinking of talking to the couple we're hopefully buying the house from, we had a good rapport with them and they were very nice. They mentioned that they would probably be buying their own house outright. I'm wondering if its a good idea to let them know what's going on and try to see if we can push back the date somewhat. By the current date of entry I should have enough for the deposit required, i'm wondering whether having that in place would help some too? Is it a good idea to talk to them at all?
At the moment we've tried going to other lenders, but it seems that our credit score is starting to go down too, we tried Northern Rock and they basically told us they can't lend us as much as we need due to our score, unless we go on their higher 5 year fixed rates (which are extortionate). Have a meeting with a mortgage broker tomorrow to try and get something done with Nationwide... we'll see how that goes, but i really don't hold out much hope especially as we had a credit check done by Northern Rock today.
Please help, its panic stations here! Many thanks!
