    Re: New to Credit Cards...

To build your credit history, you should get on the electoral roll, open a standard bank account, pay what you owe on time and not spend more than you can afford.

Credit cards that claim to build credit history tend to be charge higher interest. They are marketed at people who have had financial problems in the past. You should talk to whoever you bank with about a standard credit card before looking at any other options. If they say that you are likely to be approved, you can fill in the form and, hopefully, get one. With a standard credit card, you should not be charged any interest, fees, etc if you pay for what you spend before the date on the statement.

Credit cards make spending easy and the companies encourage you to spend without thinking by offering all sorts of promotions. If they tempt you into spending more than you can afford to pay back one month, you will be charged interest. This isn't a problem in the short term because you can apply for another card, transfer the balance and keep on spending. In the long term, you will always run into problems if you spend more than you can afford.

Confused [*-)] New to Credit Cards...

Hello guys... I tried to compare the Credit Cards but I was confused with its terms and conditions.
I'm not a big spender and I usually buy with my Visa Debit card. But I was told that since I'm new here -UK- I need to build something called Credit History.

So I was advised to apply for a Credit Card to build up that history.
What I'm thinking to do is to buy with that Card small purchases, such airline ticket, Car insurance, Sofa or Bed...etc.
Then I go to the bank and pay that amount within 1 month.

So the question is which part of the Cards conditions I should be looking for? I also don't understand what is the Balance Transfer? And why some people ask how clear the money on their Credit Card?!! Do you actually need to put some money in that Card to purchase from? If so, then it will not be considered as borrowing from the bank!

    Thanks a lot.
