Are you in a position to apply for a 0% credit card then get a private quote from a local engineer, obviously putting the new boiler and fitting down as a purchase on your card ? It would save you loads firstly on the purchase and installation, then all the interest would be saved, if you pay the card off before interest is due.

    Thank you!

I have to say it couldnt come at a worse time for a new boiler!! We do have around £21k equity so feel we will prob have to dip into this, however due to the baby we are having a payment holiday on our mortgage whilst im not working (starting in Oct) and its sods law they wont lend you any money when you have a payment holiday! Anyway, I'll see what they say tomorrow, and ring around for a few quotes.....

Firstly, Congratulations on your up and coming arrival.

Do you have any equity in your house? - as it may be better (and far cheaper) to get a local firm and add the amount on to your mortgage, therefore not taking out an extra loan, and with minimal monthly effect to your finances.

I have to admit, £3k is far too expensive, I had a new boiler supply and fit and three radiators and valves all for £1,400. My sister got Grittish Bass to fit hers, cost her nearly £4k, and ended up with leaks all over the place, and found all she was told when she complained was that it was the subcontractors they use, and it took her absolutely months to sort it out. Powergen will not employ their own fitters, so it is far better in the long run to go direct rather than through an expensive middle man.

     Hope this helps

We unfortunatley don't really have much choice in going with a company like Powergen - we both have exisiting personal loans and I am 6 weeks away from having a baby, so cant really afford repayments on another loan until next year - so we would be fine once the 0% finance ends and can repay the powergen finance in full once I go back to work.

You would be better off getting a local plumber to quote for you and then getting a loan with your bank or through this site.  It will work out much cheaper even with the interets on the loan, I feel sure.  You see, they bump up the price to compensate for the income they lose on the 0% deal, just as car dealers give you a lower valuation for part ex if youa re taking your new car on 0%.

Whichever way you do it, you'll be paying interest either directly or as a hidden element of the quotation price.

When I ran my ex's plumbing business he'd do a new boiler for between £1500 and £2000.

    Be careful!!

New Powergen Boiler - 0% Finance

We are due to have a quote tomorrow for a new boiler with powergen - I expect this to be in the region of around £3k and want to go with their 0% finance for 12 mths deal. We both have a good credit file, have a mortgage etc and no defaults. Has anyone had any experience with Powergen for finance and what are the chances of us being accepted (eg is their criteria pretty leniant or tough???)?
