Re: New No VAT offer after I've ordered a car.

Thanks for your posts guys, they helped to put things into perspective when I spoke with the dealer this afternoon.

Bottom line is he's giving me the vat discount but not offering me quite so much for my car, which had previously been a very good offer. I'm still going to end up over £1200 better off so we'll both be saving more than we were previously.

    I'm happy with that result.

    Thanks again.

Re: New No VAT offer after I've ordered a car.

I concur with markflip. Remember that the 'VAT' reduction is from the List Price of the car, not from the price you have already agreed to pay. I suspect that you will have negotiated some discount already from the list price and that this won't be a million miles away from the new offer.

Manufacturers change their offers generally on a quarterly basis and using Headlines like 'No VAT' helps to keep their marketing offers 'Fresh' in the eyes of potential customers. Its a very clever way of making people think that this is a better offer than has ever been on the table but, if you read between the lines, the amount of money you need to get out of your pocket is usually very similar.

Again, don't let this ruin your enjoyment of your New Car - especially if there is only a small amount of difference between the offers.

I bought a TV last year for somewhere in the region of £1500 and while I was buying a Washing Machine in the same place 2 months later, my TV was less than a grand. Ho hum. I still love my telly though...

Sadly for you, it sounds like you have enetered into a contract with the dealer to buy the car at the price agreed by you in August, which you are likely to be bound by in the eyes of the law.

Please remember that you were (presumably) pleased, or at least happy with, the terms of that agreement at the time, so if nothing else, don't let this new offer spoil the enjoyment of the purchase of your new car. However, nothing ventured, nothing gained - by all means approach the dealer cap-in-hand and bemoan them introducing such a good offer just after you have purchased a car from them and see what you can get, probably easier to negotiate something from them which is 'value added' for them, like a free service, car mats/accessories etc (if not already included, of course). It's unlikely that they will suddenly give you the £2000 cash VAT equivalent back (would you in their position?) so set your sights on something reasonable and a polite plea is always better than a rant (at least in the first instance!). Good luck.

Skywalker:Your purchase is subject to contract - look at your contract and see what it says about VAT. It really should be that simple.

If only it was that simple. My contract is a copy of the order form. It shows the price of the car including vat, although it doesn't say so. The pre-printed line for the vat to be added is blank and the only the additional amount is £114.99 for the extras I'm having. The order form is not dated although I signed it at the end of August and paid a £200 deposit.

The manufacturer's offer states that it applies to cars "sold and registered between 1st October 2010 and 31st December 2010."

It further states, "VAT reduction based on VAT at 17.5% on new car deliveries taken before 31 December 2010. Reduction applied to the RRP including factory fitted optional extras. On selected models only. VAT is still applicable and will be shown on the customer invoice."

I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow to see what they say.

New No VAT offer after I've ordered a car.

    Hi

I've ordered a new car (late August) for delivery in October on what I thought was a good deal, guaranteed price for my car and no interest. The manufacturer has just released their October offers and in addition to the 0% finance they are paying the VAT a difference of over £2k.

I haven't approached the dealer yet as I want to understand my options first.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks.
