New Driver:Jumped a red traffic light, Please Help!

    Hi there,

Theres probably a similar thread somewhere but I couldnt find it as I am new to this site, so I apologise for asking it again.

Basically I'm 19 and just passed my driving test almost two months ago. The other day I was driving and I took a wrong turn. I then ended up on lane, it seemed like a bus lane I think. It was no entry, except buses. The traffic light was red, but I was really confused, and just went on, so therefore jumping it. However, another reason I was confused was because there was no stopping line so I assumed I just had to keep on going. Im really worried about this.

And although I havent heard anything yet, i definately jumped the red traffic light. I dont want to get penalty points as it took me ages to get my licence.

    Anyway advice would be appreciated.

    thanks

There is no point anyone filling you with false hope, all you can do is keep an eye on the post for the next Ten days (what they usually arrive by) and hope that no summons arrives.

Go back to the scene where you made the mistake and have a look for traffic cameras, if there are none fitted then the chances are you've not been "zapped"...sorry but time is the best and the only true reassurance in this case.

Yeah I guess thats the only thing to do for now is just wait to see what the post says. Although, I went back there and yes there are definately cameras fitted above the lights.

    Thanks!

You mentioned about there being cameras *** above the lights....If these are the small cameras facing oncoming traffic then that would not be a problem.

What you have to check for is the larger GATSO type cameras which are normally mounted on a seperate post before you reach the traffic light and they face in the same direction that you would have been travelling. These are normally painted Grey, or Grey with a yellow face plate

Click on the link above to see some examples of camera types, both red light and speed models. These were cameras that had been damaged, don't do that though - big fines......
