You have to admit though Testy, that you just hate Apple anyway so its hardly likely to be objective feedback is it! Try using an iPhone for a few days then see if it changes your mind, before simply jumping on the rather tiresome Apple Bashing bandwagon!
From my point of view, I dont have one, but will probably upgrade to one in the future chance permitting. I had the pleasure of using my Brother's GFs iPhone when in London last, and I was very impressed with it.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/07/14/iphone_activations/ "UK customers who queued up to get Apple's shiny new iPhone last week are still waiting for a connection as O2 struggles to get their SIMs registered and activated on the network."
Seems like apple have gone with the 'you cant have it...and even if you can have it, the you cant use it marketing technique'
Reminds me of a southpark episode...S5 E6 Cartmanland.

Well, I finally managed to get my hands on an iPhone at the weekend - and I can definitely see what the fuss is about. But call me hard to please, I thought browsing the web with Safari would be much faster than it actually was. I haven't bought one - sold out - which makes me wonder whether it's just a marketing ploy. Having said that, I'm still likely to get one when they become a bit easier to get hold of.
Did anyone manage to get one - what do you think? Is it living up to expectations? When do we think the next upgrade will be? My money is on June next year - Can you imagine the outcry if they upgraded the camera and introduced video recording within 6 months...?

Cheers giginger - food for thought, definitely.
It's that catch-all though isn't it? Do you wait or do you take the plunge? Hmmm...

I would say wait for the 3rd generation. This is more iPhone 1.5 than iPhone 2.0.
It's still lacking a few basic features such as MMS and video recording for starters. Whilst the 2 megapixel camera is good quality it really could have been upgraded to a 5 megapixel without much hassle and a flash added. I hope/believe that the next version of the iPhone will be the one to get. It's a good phone now but it's not good enough. My N95 is still a better phone in my opinion. If I could marry the interface of the iPhone with my N95 then that would be perfect. My N95 does need replacing though. I don't treat my phones particularly well.

I'm not sure how that relates to the O2 or Carphone Warehouse tariffs in the UK though, testy.
I know they've introduced a lower, £30 per month tariff for the new phone - and this includes 125 texts and 75 minutes talktime with unlimited data and wi-fi. The upfront cost of the 8GB phone at the lowest tariff will be £99. Over 18-months, I'll be paying the upfront fee plus £30 pcm: I make that £540+£99 = £639.
Like most things, I suppose it depends what you're looking for from a phone/gadget and how much you're prepared to pay...I'm more amazed by the fact that they didn't upgrade the 2MB camera...but i suppose that's something for Christmas 2008 or Summer 2009...
As it is, I'm looking to upgrade my iPod, my phone and have a decent internet device while I'm on the move - this looks pretty good to me.
Having said that, I'm happy for members to help me make the decision one way or the other! I've not committed to anything just yet... ;o)

Ah, but sk, didn;t you know that the 80s are back in a big, big way: he's gone full circle - he's back in fashion ... ;o)
I've registered for one [much to Sharky's chagrin no doubt!]
If I'm accepted [They might not like me for that last comment] I'll post how I get on in the forum. It would be good to hear from any existing iPhone users though, too...

So....what do we think?
I know our regular - Landshark - will have something to say, but I was also wondering how this new iPhone compares to the HTC Touch and Nokia N96?
Apple have improved the phone: it's now 3G with close to full Wi-Fi speeds; full GPS 5 hours talk-time; 24 for music and 7 hours for video.
They've also cut the price: It will be £99 for an 8GB model and £159 for the 16GB versions on both the £30 and £35 tariffs and free on the £45 and £75 pay monthly tariffs.
On the downside, you will be tied in to an 18-month contract - subject to a credit check and you have to pay by direct debit. There is still no improvement to the 2 megapixel camera from the first generation iPhone, though there will be an option to choose a Pay as you go tariff - though nio details have yet been confirmed. Using up data while roaming isn't included in the monthly tariffs and, as with any product or deal, it's always worth double-checking the full terms and conditions before you commit to anything.
But, what does everyone think? I wonder how those who bought one a few months ago when the price was reduced are feeling? Bearing in mind, the first generation of iPhone was launched in the UK November last year; will there be another update just before Christmas - perhaps with an improved camera? Let us know your thoughts...
