Never had a bill, don't even know our gas supplier!

I took up the offer for the right to buy my council flat 5yrs ago. 2yrs ago the council fitted all the flats with a new gas central heating system and boilers. Since then I have never had a gas bill and I don't know who is suppling the flat with gas!

Can anyone tell me if Im liable to pay for the 2yrs of free gas...very worried!

The rules now are that, if they've not sent bills, they can only bill you for the last 12 months. There is information elsewhere on this site if you really wanted to find who the supplier is.

It's certainly worth taking a meter reading or two and putting a few hundred pounds on one side in case a bill does come along.

Murg:Thanks, I tried phoning transco but I received an automated message that said to continue they needed a MPRN number with we have never had.

"If you cannot find your MPRN on a recent gas bill, you can find out your MPRN by calling Transco's MPRN helpline on 0870 608 1524." (acknowledging energylynx)

Did you try the Transco MPRN helpline? If so, sh*t helpline, if not give it a try.

I called national grid very helpful, said I can call any gas supplier and tell them they have no record for my address. Least no huge bills to pay!

YOU COULD ALWAYS ASK THE COUNCIL ? if they fitted your new systems they would know who the new energy supplier is?

Right, chances are you don't have a transco mprn. It'll be what's called an IGT (independent gas transporter) mprn and these are notoriously difficult to find through transco as they (transco) are not responsible for administering the supply. What you need to do is get your meter serial number which will be on the front of your meter and will start with either G4 or a year of manufacture and a 6 digit number after. Contact a supplier who can search with the various IGT's to find out who supplies (or anyone! as it can be supplierless). You will be liable for the last 12 months of usage but nothing more due to rules regarding backbilling if you have taken resonable steps to try and get your bills.

If you still have issues please reply as i have a lot of experience in this area.

    Regards
