    Re: Never had a bill!

I agree but it has been me paying the electricity and supposedly someone else paying the gas- that person is moving out and has chosen now to inform me that it has never been paid! Ridiculous. I have savings that are more than adequate to clear a bill but obviously it niggles me and seeing as I'm not moving it has to be sorted out. I will pursue the cash I'm owed from this lying sod by my own means...! I'll sort it out asap.

    Re: Never had a bill!

The Meter Point Number Helpline is 0870 608 1524 and they will help you to find your current supplier.

It is quite possible that you will be asked to pay on a more expensive tariff than you want, perhaps with a high standing charge. There are rules on how far back they can bill for a standing charge though.

I am using commercial premises and have just received a bill of £1300 for using just 800 units. Most of this is a £1.45 per day standing charge. I am, of course, arguing with this tariff. I doubt that such a tariff could be applied to a residential supply but I am not sure.

When you move into premises, it is your responsibility to find out who the supplier is and put the supply into your name. In my case, I was incorrectly told that the landlord would bill me.

Unless you are planning to move in the near future, you should try sort the matter out soon.

Thanks for that. Not worried about paying it- 2 years sounds like loads but I doubt it'll be too bad. I'll check it out :)

    Re: Never had a bill!

A tricky situation unfortunately but an essential first step is to find out your Meter Point Reference Number.  Details in the link.  If you only do one thing do that now.  The second thing to do is to try to think how to budget to pay 2 years worth of gas, in installments if you are lucky.  Once you find your MPRN you will be able to open discussions on that with your supplier.

    Never had a bill!

    Hi there- little help please!

I have lived in my rented house for alomost 2 years and everything is electric except the heating. We have a meter for the electricity and a payment card (it was there when we moved in and we don't use enough to care too much about removing it) but we have never had any contact from the gas side; apparently both are with British Gas. We rang through with a meter reading when we moved in but never received anything, although the electricity card was replaced with one with my name on. I used to work in utilities and some people seemed to live in 'black holes' where no-one seemed to want to charge for the supply, sometimes for decades! While I don't want to suddenly be landed with a big bill after 2 years I don't know how to resolve it (I only discovered recently that we weren't paying it as another member of my household was responsible for sorting it!) without a massive headache from them. Suggestions please!!
