far as iam aware you have to xtfer yearly NCB which means you will lose the part year already used. if you xtfer to another insurance . your insurance company should have to contact under writers which may place conditions on your policy and then change at end of year. which means u should have earned another year NCB.

she is not tied to this insurer, NCD is transferable between insurance companies.
you will need proof from your last insurer, with is normally a renewal notice.

CHECK WITH TRADING STANDARDS / INSURANCE OBSBUDMAN

ONCE U HAVE INSURANCE THE COMPANY SHOULD CHANGE OVER TO NEW CAR AND PROVIDE PRICE. WAS THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS PLACED ON THE POLICY.

TRY CONTACTING THE INSURANCE COMPANY NOT THE BROKER TO FIND OUT WHY THEY WILL NOT INSURE THE NEW CAR.

YOU WILL LOSE THE NCD FOR THIS YEAR ONCE U XTFER. WHAT OUT FOR THE QUOTES AND THE COMPANY THEY WILL USE. TRY NORWICH UNION DIRECT IF THATS WHO INSURE YOU A PERSENT TO C IF ITS THE BROKER OR THE INSURERS.

I GOT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY POLICY WITH BUDGET (NORWICH UNION) IT WOULD COST ME LESS TO INSURE MY NEW CAR WITH ANOTHER COMPANY THAN TO PAY CANCELLATION FEES WITH BUDGET. TEY GOT A £50 CANCELLATION FEE AND % OF REMAIN COST OF POLICY.

THE FUNNY PART THE CHEAPER QUOTE WAS WITH THE POST OFFICE / (NORWICH UNION ) THE SAME INSURES AS AT PRESENT.

Re: NCD transfering to another insurer

The problem you are experiencing is probably that the Post office are acting as a broker, and as such the insurance company you were with on the old car, wont accept the new car.  Therefore the PO have had to find another company that will.

A £10 admin charge is a small price to pay if they are otherwise refunding you 5/12's of your premium.

You can take your business elsewhere, utilising the number of years NCD earned up to the last renewal (as the current year hasnt finished you wont earn any NCD for the current year).  Just ask the PO to send you a letter with your NCD entitlement.  Then all you have to do is send this to the new company you are going to.  The new company will take you on trust pending receipt of that proof.

    NCD transfering to another insurer

    Hi,

I posted this in ask the expert but i have not had a reply, was wondering if anybody else can answer my questions

My partner has car insurance with The Post Office
insurance services, She is looking to change her car. Yesterday she
phoned the customer services department to get a quote to transfer the
insurance to a new car, and was told the underwriter would not allow
this. The only option would be to cancel the current insurance policy,
(there are 5 months remaining), and charge us £10 for the previledge.
and then start a new policy. They have quoted over £300 for a new
policy. I have checked other quotes and most are much lower. It seems
she has no option to cancel the policy if she wants to change her car,
my question is if she goes to another insurer, will her NCD transfer
OK? She is not tied to this insurer? Can insurance companies rip off
    their customers like this?

    Thanks and Regards, Kev
