    Re: Named driver rights

Sorry I missed that part of your question.

The cover you refer to is "driving other cars" extension. This cover is in place for the named driver on a comprehensive policy to drive another vehicle (with the owners permisson) on a third party only basis BUT this cover is only meant to be for emergency purposes not day to day use.

So in your circumstance the answer would be no I'm afraid.

Thanks for your reply........but the question still remains. Can she drive the second car or not, even though she is only a named driver on the first car insurance? is she covered to drive the second car with the first car insurance 'named person' status?

    Re: Named driver rights

Hi sorry but this is not a case of fronting that would lead to a claim being declined.

This term is used to determine whether the facts given to take a policy out as been disgisued (fronted) to hide the true facts to obtain a cheaper premium. The normal circumstance is when a parent insures their kids car in their own name as the insurance otherwise would be very expensive.

In your circumstance you have a financial interest in both vehicles so that would mean you can insure both vehicles in your name. The important thing here is to disclose on each policy who the main user of the vehicle is so that the premium can be adjusted accordingly.

If you were the present a claim to me I would not consider any misrepresentation or nondisclosure to investigate further.

Any questions then please let me know.

    Hi

Your wife should obtain insurance in her own name - what has happened here is known in insurance circles as "fronting" and could result in the policy being void in a claim situation

Your wife must rectify this as soon as possible

    Named driver rights

When I got my first car insurance - a comprehensive cover - I included my wife as a named driver, though she only held a provisional driver's license then. Later, I bought a car for her in her name but could neither get her a cover as the main policy holder or a named person with the same insurance company - Tesco.

Eventually, I had to again obtain an insurance cover for this second car in my name (still comprehensive cover). Now, the question is, can my wife drive this second car (hers) with the current named person status she enjoys on my first car insurance?

    Thanks.
