n power trouble . please help me

to cut a long story short n power have charged me an unbelievable amount of £1059 for 30 weeks gas and electricity for a 2 bed bungalow with 2 adults working full time !! {we moved out } and now have a 4 bed property which the g AT a is vastly cheaper , anyway they said beacuse we moved out they cant test the meters and i am liable , they are sending debt collecters round . all i can afford is £20 per month to cover both the gas and electricity . whats the best way to approach the offer and what if they refuse it ?? HEELLLLP

Next time get help before it gets to the debt collectors coming round. If that is happenning you would be best speaking to Citizen's Advice as soon as possible. Also contact Consumer Focus for advice.

There a several resons more likely than faulty meters for high bills. Having moved out it's a lot more tricky because ideally you need to check the opening and closing readings are billed as provided (assuming you still have a record). It would be helpful if you could break the £1059 into gas and electric. One faulty meter is unlikely, two faulty meters almost impossible.

Other reasons include faulty calculation of gas - not your fault. In 30 weeks you should have had several bills. If you don't have them maybe you should obtain copies.

Is the £1059 the total amount for 30 weeks or were you also making (or not making) monthly or quarterly payments?

Re: n power trouble . please help me

i was having ok bills at the start and was paying them £150 per month . then just before we moved out they sent me a bill saying i owed x amount which i quizzed but they said the usual stuff like your consumption must of been high , did you leave appliances on etc . i tried to dispute it but they said i couldn,t open a dispute about a bill amount . i did offer npower £20 per month as thats all i can afford and they declined my offer and now the debt collectors are coming !!! £1059 is what they say i still owe despite regular other payments ... it just seemed to rocket up out of no where , and not set amounts like one week it was for example {i need to find the bills} £16 the next £54 .. whats that all about ?? shocking . any ideas how i can dispute it for the time being ??

the reason i cannot now afford to pay £150 per month {which i forgot to say was for a bit of arrears as they didn,t send out our first bill for ages after requesting it when we moved in } is because i now have other bills to pay on this new property .

    ??

Hard to follow what's happening but I never take what a company says you can't do at face value. As well as getting help from Citizen's Advice and Consumer focus (because of the debt collection threat) I would suggest you play for time by raising a formal complaint with Npower regarding your assertion that you were informed that you couldn't open a dispute about a bill amount. The procedure is on the NPower website.
