Yes, thats cu ft - I can't see any way you could use 38*100 cu ft per day - even if your c/heating was on continuous and you left your cooker on all the time! Are you sure you are reading the right figures? If the reading is correct then either

    1. You have a faulty meter

    2. OR You have a leak

    Re: N Power gas charges

Just to agree with andysm - I live in a 5 bed detached with gas for heating, hot water and cooking- my gas usage for the last 6-7 mnths over Winter has averaged out at 2.05 * 100 cu ft per day ( ~ 6 cu m/day) which is ~ £60 per mnth on my tariff with Scot Power.

I suggest that the Transco guy needs to check that you haven't got leaks on your side of the meter - they can do that simply by turning everything in the house off and looking for a pressure drop at the meter.

Have you had your central heating on continuously over the Winter or on a time switch ?? That will have put your usage way up in the very cold weather.

    Re: N Power gas charges

If you are using 38 kWh of gas per day (in winter) that isn't very much at all.
If you are using 38 m3 of gas per day that is a lot!
If you are using 38 * 100 Cu Ft per day that is absolutely astronomical usage.

During winter I was using about 1.6 units per day (160 Cu Ft or about 4.6 m3 or about 50kWh).

    Re: N Power gas charges

Old gas meters measure usage in units of 100 cubic feet (100 Cu Ft).
Newer meters measure in cubic metres (m3).

Look at your meter, it should say what units the meter is reading, it might be something like '100 Cu Ft' or 'm3'.

    N Power gas charges

    Hi

please can someone help me?? I have lived in my house for over 9 years and have paid my bills which have allways seemed very high!! Then last year after speaking to a neighbour and family it became apparant that i have been paying over the odds for a very long time. I contacted N power who made me jump through many hoops to be told that my bills are correct. I live in a small 3 bed semi with my 9year old daughter i have 6 rads and a gas hob that is it. My bill 0ct 08 to dec 08 was £550 my last bill from dec 08 to mar 09 was estimated at wait for it!!!! £1179.00 yes you read it correct looking at my bills over the last 3 quarters i have spent £2000 on gas. As you can imagine i have refussed to pay this bill and i have demanded somebdy come and check my meter and after tears and tantrums (theirs not mine!) there are sending somebody from transco to look at it. I would love to know if there is anybody who i can speak to, to get help in this matter as i feel they will win and i will be left bankrupt!! i changed my electric meter to a prepayment because my bills were so high i think maybe i have been ripped off for a very long time with that as well. I have taken meter readings for my gas and it worked out in Jan 09 i was using 38 units a day is this normal as i have no idea i have started again today so i can see if its different with less heating being used. If there is anybody who can advise me i would appreciate it.

    Thanks
