Re: Mystery account letters from British Gas

I doubt it's someone with a personal vendetta. I mean, why only do one per month if that was the case?

However, I'd not thought of contacting Eon. I'm sure they won't be too happy about someone trying to pinch their business. Whether they have any way to object is another matter of course.

It depends on whom you are supplied by, however a supplier can raise a perminent objection to stop it from loosing supply. The application is either someone who doesnt like you or similar.

No [N] Mystery account letters from British Gas

Today I received a 'welcome to British Gas' letter from BG. It wasn't for me though. The address was correct but the name was fake. To make matters worse, this is now the second time we've had one of these welcome letters. Almost a month ago we got a similar one, same address, different name from BG.

Our Gas and electric are both under a different company entirely.

That time we contacted their customer services who cancelled the account and sent a closed letter (stupidly, to the name on the first letter) to us a few days later.

Now we've gone onto the BG customer services again to ask what's going on. They have cancelled the new account and claim that they are getting this info from a switching service (unnamed) and that there's nothing they can do about it. We asked for our address to be blocked from their system so that no new accounts can be raised, again this is not something they can apparently do.

We've raised a complaint against this issue which is supposed to get us a reply within 7-10 days.

Any forumites have any suggestions on what we can do to stop this happening again?
