Mistakes happen but it's unusual for mistakes to mean that you don't have to pay your taxes. You might have a case for not paying if the error happened many years ago. Otherwise, you can negotiate when to pay the tax. You should, for example, be able to ask to pay the money over a 12 month period.

MY TAX WAS UNDERPAID IN PREVIOUS YEARS?

The taxman wants to claim it back. What shall i do and what are my rights? This is deeply distressing. I am a UK citizen. the HM Revenue & Customs said it was their mistakes. They suggested i should write a formal letter to HMRC which i did & they basically told me they will start to take alot of money from my pension. This is HMRC error and incompetence! What can i do and what are my rights? PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME; I LOOK AFTER AN ELDERLY RELATIVE & I LIVE OFF MY NHS PENSION. THANK YOU! XXXX

P.S the silly HMRC Taxman should have known i was WORKING TWO JOBS!

What are my rights? he has taken alot of money from my pension! THIS IS NOT FAIR, WHY SHOULD I SUFFER FROM HMRC'S INCOMPETENCE & ERRORS?
