Re: Multiple car insurance - i think!

    RGB,

Thanks for the advice and I will look at Sabre/ Provident. I did have a brain wave last night. When I recently put the SLK into the garage for paintwork I was given a coutesy car for the duration, which I had to insure myself. Bell Direct  were happy to put said loan vehicle on the SLK`s policy for 2 weeks and then a further 1 week, which cost about £17/ week. Isn`t what I am trying to achieve not a million miles away from this and thus, with a few carefully worded comments, be able to obtain `cover ` in a simialr way? After all, I am still only driving one vehicle whilst the other is off the road !

Tried that route and got a premium of £160 for 28 days from Sun Alliance, which I think is pretty steep! Back to the drawing board bu thansk for the tip.

Hi -- Further to RGB's good advice, you could always get a quote for temporary cover, below, for the car you are selling, which will be independant from the car you are going to keep on permanent cover.

    Hi Carlion,

Bit tricky this, and a lot of work on your behalf is involved if you want a multi-car policy. Sometimes this works out far more expensive doing it this way - especially if the two cars are very different. You may be better off doing a few quotes for multi-car and separate insurances. Admiral do a multi-car policy but I wouldn't insure anything with them myself, personally.

As one vehicle is only needed for a short term period, this also makes me think that this shouldn't be put with a multi-car company. You should try doing a quote on here for it then calling the insurer and seeing if they do any shorter term policies. Sabre/Provident etc. do 3 and 6 month policies through brokers. This certainly won't be exactly half the price of a full policy as the insurer's costs will need to be covered, but it will not be as expensive as a full year.

What you are asking for is 'non-standard' and unfortunately the internet quote engines are really designed for basics (at the moment!!). By all means run through the quotes, but ensure you speak to somebody over the telephone to ensure you have the best price and cover required.

Multiple car insurance - i think!

Hi, I am buying a Ford Focus and selling a Mercedes SLK 230K. At a point in the near future, I will own 2 vehicles and thus require insurance for both vehilces, one for a full term policy and one for a short term period, until I sell the existing vehilce. As I have aquired a SP30 this year and my current insurance is about to expire, with a hefty increase due to this, hence I will not be renewing with them - Bell Direct. As I will be renewing with a new Ins Co., is this an unusual request. If so, can you recommend an insurer(s)
