    Re: Motor Insurance Quotes!!!

Bad enough to get possibly the worst service from ENDSLEIGH Insurance, but to find out that their "Competitive Quote" was over £200 more expensive that my own bank was too much. A short surf produced a £450 saving for my two vehicles which was duly taken out. Now waiting for ENDLSEIGH CR*P INSURERS to respond to the kind request for my no claims evidence. Watch them screw this up as well ....

I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times - motor insurance in the UK is the biggest racket in the business and we sit back as a nation of sheep and do nothing about it except whinge. Untaxed and non-MOT'd vehicles are uninsured as are the irresponsible drivers who use them. They should be locked up and the key thrown away - what's the point of banning an illegal driver who has no insurance, license or legal vehicle? They couldn't care less when they committed the offence and as soon as they have wrecked a law-abiding citizen's life through their negligence, they are effectively let off witha paltry penalty that is worn like a badge of honour amongst the ghetto low lifes that we seem to produce. Insurers are no better - instead of persuing these paarsites for all they're worth, they leave the law abiding road users to foot an ever increasing bill.

This is one shark who's sick of the whole system here!

    Re: Motor Insurance Quotes!!!

In December 2005 I started looking around for a motor insurance quote. I didn't think of using the switching sites. I used insurance companies' online sites and recommendations from friends that included brokers. I never had anything but firm quotes. OH one small thing I got quotes ranging from £475 to £1200! To be fair the 'situation' was not totally straightforward. Now, I would certainly use the switching sites.

Complete waste of time using this screen scraper. Rang most of the top 10 cheapest quotes.
    EVERYONE ENDED UP DEARER!!!
One even said i had written that i had bought my second hand car in 2002 instead of 2004 so the quote went up. WHY???

    Re: Motor Insurance Quotes!!!

Agreed, Barclays is who I went with in the end. My premium for the year was £850, with my previous insurer it was just over £1k for 12 months.

    Hello

I found Barclays very good for me.

I have 10 years NCD and 1 speeding fine,

I have been with direct line for 6 years and it has gone up gradually

    £269 Barclays
    £377 Direct Line

They offer to beat premium of current insurer or they will give you £50. check the T&Cs

    Re: Motor Insurance Quotes!!!

I bought my car insurance this year from the MS website, the premium did go up on the Barclays website but only by a matter of £20 or so which was because I put in the moneysupermarket site that I wanted to have a £250 excess although based on my age the lowest I can have is £350 or something.

Sites like this one have to make a certain number of assumptions when they search, its never going to be 100% accurate but if the price goes up on the first insurer you try, then give the number 2 one a go. Either way you are still likely to find your cheapest quote quicker by using the comparison on moneysupermarket then going to each individual insurer and typing your details in everytime.

    Re: Motor Insurance Quotes!!!

Given that insurers pay to appear on these tables it's obviously in their interest to appear as high up the table as possible, and as Jimb suggests, in Moneysupermarket's interest to make sure the guys paying the most are getting the customers. It would be interesting to hear how many people have seen the price jump one they get close to seeing the actual price they pay, and what details if any have been changed.

    Re: Motor Insurance Quotes!!!

It does seem to be a very common practice. Give a cheap quote, but when you try and accept it, it has gone up. On occasions I have telphoned companies, I have even faxed their quote back to them and they still refuse to honour it. This scam seems to be particularly common when seeking insurance for young drivers,.

What puzzles me is that if Moneysupermarket is a reputable organisation or at least wants to appear to be why does it allow such scams? There is ample evidence that many of the listed companies are up to this trick. Surely Moneysupermarket could insist that its users honour the quotes they give.

My advice is do as I do, don't bother with these shopping bots like Moneysupermarket etc, it's hard work but just go to the insurers own site directly, it will save you time and frustration in the long run.

    Re: Motor Insurance Quotes!!!

i would like proof your premiums don't change from year to year.i have not made a caim for 20 years yet premiums always go up. if you don't make a claim then your premiums should come down, after all the car is 1 year older and has a poorer resale value.

    Re: Motor Insurance Quotes!!!

I'm affraid that I am in agreement with many other people in this forum, there is definately something "dodgy" going on here.
The moneysupermarket quote was approx £173 from the post office, but when I Clicked the link to the post office web site
the quote came to £243.86 ???.
I realise that you make certain assumptions, so I read them and I put in the details much as described in your assumptions, (i.e. no legal cover, excess etc),please can you tell us what is going on.

Recently I used moneysupermarket for a motor quote. The Postoffice were the cheapest. When I clicked to accept the quote which was £175 the quote jumped to £294. I called them and they said that quotes are variable!!!! Be very carefull as the Postoffice do not Honour the quotes given or suggested.

    Re: Motor Insurance Quotes!!!

This is a typical example - customers expect LOYALTY discounts from their insurer, but wheres their loyalty to the company?!!!

You look for the 'cheapest deal' by 'shopping around' - why bother every year if your premiums dont change from yr to yr?!

I cant be doing phoning around every insurer all day.

    Re: Motor Insurance Quotes!!!

Yes, I've just done the same thing, Post Office was cheapest quote but went up considerably by a company called SABRE so it seems the Post Office website just directs you to another insurer or is SABRE their official insurer. So another insurance quote I got was from Quinn Direct which also went up considerably. My details are exactly the same as last year when I used Supermarket.com so this is a new 'dare I say' scam where your forever putting in details into different car insurance websites only to find the quotes go up once you are in them! Anyway, I'm now going to try Budget and see if their quote is true as it was last year. I'll let you know.
