    Re: MIH Communications

    I FINALLY GOT A REFUND!!!

My faulty phone was sent to LG who sent it back to me saying it was a foreign model so is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty in the UK!! Went back to trading standards and told them who urged me to give one last try before going to court (they had actually been in touch with MIH on my case).

I went to court anyway and got all the paperwork. I then rang MIH to give them 1 last chance and telling them it will cost an extra £30 (+£25 if there is a hearing). They played dumb when I told them the phone was foreign. I basically said reply by the end of the day or I'll send off the paperwork to the county court. They tried to give me an exchange but I was not having it as they should have done it in the first place!! What if the new phone is faulty as well? They tried to tell me that they are not legally obliged to give a refund as per their advice from their lawyer (which I didn't believe). I reiterated my rights and reminded them if they were unwilling I'll just send off the paperwork to the court which will cost them another £30 if I win. They gave in and gave me a refund the next day.

    Re: MIH Communications

As I mentioned in my earlier post they are now trading as "Big Step Enterprize LTD" (They spell it enterprise on the receipt but enterprize on the companies house website possibly to avoid detection).

I received a reply from LG today about my faulty phone. They said they could not repair it as it was a foreign unit!! I'm waiting for a reply from which? lawyers as to the next step to take. I'm going to trading standards as well but I doubt they'll do anything. The respose I'm getting from trading standards is "you've got to demand a refund" but i'm not getting anything. After expalining all the steps I took in the past I still get "you've got to demand a refund".

Useless waste of my tax money to pay staff at trading standards!!

I see there up to no good again under a different name! Some people never learn do they!

    Re: MIH Communications

I fully agree with your post astonski, these smaller independent phone shops will forever be scamming customers because of their clever advertising, even some of the larger ones are getting bad customer reviews now.

For my last few years in the UK, I stuck with O2 nad after the original 18 months was up they reduced my contract price with a bit of haggling and threatening to leave. Also the Sim-only deals are very good if you already have a good phone and don't mind missing out on the bells and whistles that come with a newer model.

I would love to get a job with Trading Standards and I would be the hardest b***ard around trying to get scam-mongers like this lot closed down, it would almost be worth doing the job for no pay......Rant over

    Re: MIH Communications

I wish I came accross this website before I bought a phone from MIH (Now Big Step Enterprize).

I bought an LG KU 990 from them for £170 not locked to any network as I want to use it internationally. They said the phone is guaranteed for 1 year. On charging it fully the battery only lasted 10 hours on standby. I took it back to MIH and Hajra(the assistant who sold me the phone) claimed it was normal. I contacted LG to confirm this who informed me the battery should last 440 hours so the phone is faulty and I need it to be exchanged.

I confronted Hajra on this who refused to exchange the phone. She offered to send it to LG to get it repaired. A week later she had done nothing so I got angry and I demanded a refund or I take the matter to trading standards. The manager Max said to me "go ahead and do it we'll see what happens". Trading standards advised me to write a letter to them threatening legal action. MIH replied and still refused a refund (and made clear they won't refund ever) but offered to replace the battery. That did not sort out the problem so I went back to trading standards who were not much help. They could not assist any further and left it to me to persue the matter with the small claims court or the manufacturer. I am going through the manufacturer at presentin case this new company MIH is trading under (Big step enterprize) goes into administration as well, it may make things difficult. Also so many people have court orders against them (CCJ) but still refuse to pay out like the case of Tariq Zamaan (I think his name was) reported on BBC's Watchdog programme.

I guess Max knew Trading Standards won't do much if he sticks to his stubburn guns. I'm waiting for my phone to return from LG. If its still faulty i'm taking this to the small claims court. I'll keep you all posted.

Have you noticed how the staff answer the phone? "Mobile phone shop" not stating the name of the business. This company is run by professional criminals.

    Re: MIH Communications

A lot of these smaller phone shops are conning customers out of their cashback and as it only cost about £30 to £40 to start up a company, they disappear for a short time and then you see the same guys selling contract phones from another rented shop in the same town.

You don't get anything for Nothing anymore, if you get a 1 year or 18 month deal direct with the better mobile providers, then you can negotiate for a better deal for you stay with them beyond the original contract term.

    Re: MIH Communications cashback con

fat load of good going to small claims court did to my claim! I got a letter from Nottingham and Watson about liquidating MIH in september and I have sent the claim form but I'm not holding my breath. Has anyone noticed they are still trading under a different name - Onestopmobile ? How are these unscrupulous *** allowed to trade on the same premises with the same business as before but just under a different name? How is this fair on all the people out of pocket cos of their tricks?

    Hi

My contract has been sorted. We used CISAS and they appointed an adjudicator who decided the contract should come to an end.

I noticed MIH are re-opening with a different name lol
