    Memory Foam Mattress

We have recently bought a memory foam matress and new bedstead. My wife has come up with a rash that is covering most of her body. With cream from the Doctor things are improving. She is no longer sleeping on the new mattress. Has anyone else had a problem with a memory foam mattress. She is unsure about sleeping on the memory foam again. Before I go back to the shop I am trying to find out if this is a common problem. Thank you everyone.

Hi --- It may well be that your wife is sensitive to the material itself, different things do affect people in differing ways. See bottom of article.

    Re: Memory Foam Mattress

Hi Conmankiller, Thank you for the link. Someone was suffering in exactely the same way as my wife. Off to get a new bed today but I feel reassured that we need to spend the money as it does seem very likely this is the cause of the problem. My son has decided to have the bed, a gift from us, so at least we have the chance to shop around and not battle to try and obtain some sort of refund. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

What a shame. I bought a memory foam mattress and divan last summer and love it, it's so comfortable and doesn't need turning.

One thought I do have is that a mattress protector may help - aside from the obvious (it protects the mattress), it would offer another barrier between the mattress and your (potentially non-memory foam liking) skin.

I love my memory foam 'hybrid' mattress :) (6 Inches of memory foam over pocket springs) :):):)

Yes, we did trythat alas to no avail.

We have now bought a pocket sprung mattress and her rash has now cleared, it took nearly 8 weeks to clear.

    Well that's something I suppose :):)

I'm sure theres probably a fairly good market on fleabay for memory foam mattresses - assuming the shop didn't do the right thing and take it back :)

We have had our memory foam mattress now for 6 months and it has coolmax, breathable aloe vera cover on it too, however my husband tends to wake up in pools of sweat, has anyone else discovered this happening to them? If so how cna we stop it because I love the mattress, gives me the best sleep?

    Re: Memory Foam Mattress

Hi, I agree about the 'hotness', I love my new mem matt, but am soo hot and clammy in bed. I never usually sweat at all. My partner does sweat, but has been away and not yet slept in it. Am off to buy another cover for it today in the hope it will help. I did ring the company who were most unhelpful... am fed up that I did not read all the terms and cond property when purchasing as we have to pay for a courier to return it if that turns out to be the case - and its in Leeds - miles from us!! Want to keep it as find it comfy. Any ideas anyone

Sadly we haven't got over the heat problem and even using a 3.5tog quilt doesn't help, but we both sleep so well it seems that daily showers and regular cleaning of linen! If you find anything yourself please do tell me.

    Re: Memory Foam Mattress

Hi, we bought a Staples bed with memory foam mattress in 2005. Like you we find it very hot and as I had hot flushes it was unbearable at times, the mattress became very stained, but is so comfy. However we have now discovered another problem. As you know you do not have to turn the mattress over but can turn it around and while doing this we noticed really bad mildew on the mattress base, This has been pointed out to the manufacturer and retailer who say they have never encountered this problem before and that it is not a manufacturing fault. The retailer sent Homeserve to inspect the bed and they suggested it is not a manufacturing fault but was our fault for sweating too much! I maintain that had the bed base been better ventilated this would not be a problem and wonder if you or any other contributors have experienced this problem.

    Re: Memory Foam Mattress

We,ve just bought a Re-ly-on memory foam mattress. It felt more responsive when there were no sheets on it, and I only had to use one memory foam pillow which we chose in the shop - I tried it out at home when it was unwrapped with the same result. However as soon as a matress protector and sheet go on top, I need an extra thickness under the pillow. The husband is getting more pain in his left shoulder than he usually gets (sadly on the side where he doesn't snore) since getting it (only been on it 3 nights). I have told him it may get better as he gets used to the matress. He is reluctant to remove the protector as he doesn't want to get ithe mattress dirty.

I have not noticed if I am warmer or not. My feet and lower legs still remain cold all night which make me wonder if that is why I maybe sinking too far in the middle, as it is supposed to be heat responsive, and therefore my head and shoulders are at a more acute angle to the bed, hence the need for extra pillow height. I do not feel I am sleeping "straight".

The saving grace is that I am feeling les creaky, so it must be helping - I feel no pressure point pain anymore - whooppee - but am worried about the husband relating his pain to the mattress, when he was suffering before but not to the same degree.
