My only advise is if you want to set up a policy legally and you want to build NCB up you will have to set up a policy in your name! I know it may seem expensive but this way you know you are safe. If you were to set up a policy with your mum as the ph but you as the main driver and you made a claim they company would do the best they could not to pay out, there probably is something in the small print!!!

seb, my man, i am sure you have got this wrong the policy holder must be the main driver. mom could probably run 2 policies at same time but she then doubles the chance's of losing her ncb. ncb's are worth a great deal of money in savings on insurance and are hard earned. do the right thing and earn your own ncb's. i am not so sure about your point that being a named driver does not collect ncd's, if you do not make a claim then you should be entitled to them. i am sure some other member will write in with more knowledgeable facts. another point "if" you make a claim does mom lose her ncb?

main driver on car.... can a develop my own no claims if not the policy holder

    ok,

basically i have bought a bmw 316i coupe1995 after having passed my test a month ago, the cheapest quotes that i could find with the policy in my own name were a shade either side of 2k a year.

however i found that if i put the policy in my mom's name with me as the main driver it droppe dby about a grand. what i would like to know is that because we have declared the the insurers in obtaining these quotes that i am in fact the main driver even though i am not the policy holder if i will be able to build up a ncb. i know that if i were just a 'normal named' driver that generally speaking that i would not be able to build up a ncb , but i have trawled through various internet sites trying to find out what the general stance on being the main driver on a policy held by someone else was and just could not find a straigh answer.

also seeing as in these quotes we entered my moms 9 years of ncb against it does she have to take these of her other policy that is on her car and transfer them or can she run them both at the same time?

i am not trying to beat the system and i do not want to do anything illegal, i just want to find a cheap and good way to build up a first year of ncb and from what i can see it looks possible in this way, i would be grateful for any help to clarify if doing it in this way is a: legal and legitimate and b: going to allow me to build up a ncb as i am the main declared driver.

    many thanks seb
