Supanet will not issue MAC-codes. Even though their Code of Practice states that they will if possible. The thing that seems to make it possible ,is if you pay them a whacking fifty pound admin fee! Shameful behaviour.

Re: MAC code issues - name and shame!

flasha, thanks. will enquire from pal who works for legal ombudsman office re OFCOM access.
TISCALI never join them ..now released ;got BT home hub running fine and all their engineers and service seems civilised and do what they say after 5 days... a bit like the UK b4 mr blair modernised it....

the cynical and systematic cheating by TISCALI plus their deteriorating ISP system has to be more widely publised..ANY other fora for doing this maybe U tube or other well supported UK consimer message board...??

it wont be long B4 blair and brown sub contract the benefits system CSA and NHS to tiscali...will save bilions as citizens lose the will to live..TISCALI management shld be incacerated and every meal paper and item of daily life they need can only be obtained with a MAC code and "help" line from TISCRAPI support ? system...sheer troture torture even

Re: MAC code issues - name and shame!

my tiscali history. after 3 weeks i tried to telephone took 6 hours to get connected. i was told tiscali had cancelled my order as they could only supply 1mb. asked for a mac code still not recieved. recieved a bill for £47.00 called accounts was told it was not an account matter. The telephone operators can speak english but there is no comprehension of the language. i have tried smoke signals, tom toms, morse code and semaphore and still cannot get a sensible answer, except i must pay £47 for nothing and if i am due a rebte it shall be forthcoming. this has been going on since 19th Sept 2006 it is now 28 Dec 2006 and i am unable to get any broadband without a mac code. ofcom does sweet fanny adams. I.M.H.O. tiscali should be banned from being a ISP

Re: MAC code issues - name and shame!

I thought i was the only one having difficulty getting a mac code form tiscali broadband. i wanted to move my broadband service to another provider because it was cheaper. i phone tiscali to get a MAC code, they told me to call back in 5 days that it will be ready, i called back and they told me it has failed, that BT could not get me a MAC code, i kept calling back every week and i was given all sorts of excuse until a month later i got really fed up with their excuses and decide to cancell my broadband service with them. as that is the easiest way of changing my broadband provider.

is as if all the customer service provider at tiscali is been trained on all the meaningless excuses they can give to customer whenever they phone up and ask for a mac code. is terrible the kind of service they provide. they purposely want to keep you with them as long as possible.

Re: MAC code issues - name and shame!

Well, tiscali are getting quite a name for themselves aren't they? I must tell you the latest on my quest to migrate!

Because i have an Orange mobile contract for £30 a month, i am eligible for free broadband from them. So because i have been fed up waiting for Tormenting Tiscali to give me a code, i phoned Orange to see if they could recommend anything. They gave me the phone number for BT Warehouse who can tell you if you have a tag on your phone line (after you've resorted to cancelling Tiscali, sometimes they will do that to prevent other isp's using the line). I phoned them (sorry, i have lost the phone number...and i need it again if anyone knows it!) and they gave me a number to ring Tiscali on. I rung this number and i couldn't believe it! I got through straight away! The Tiscali woman told me she'd sent me a MAC code ages ago. (my tiscali email address hasnt worked for ages even though ive tried to get them to do something about that too. Also i told tiscali not to send it to that address but they did!) So she told me over the phone what the MAC no. was!! "BRILLIANT!!!", i thought! Then she told me the MAC code only had 2 days left on it! Doh! I asked her to email me a new one (they cant give them there and then as they have to apply to BT for the code) to my proper, working email address. Still no sign of it 3 weeks later!!!

Anyway, the moral in the story is...: Warn your friends about Tiscali! They are a nightmare! But as to getting hold of a MAC code, i can only suggest what worked (temporarily) for me and that is - ring BT Warehouse and ask them for Tiscali's cancellation line. I think it must be a different number to the one Tiscali advertise cos i got through just like that!!

So if anyone can find that BT Warehouse tagline number, i'd appreciate it! I cant be bothered to ring Orange mobile and go thru that rigmarole again!! ... i will if i have to of course....!

Re: MAC code issues - name and shame!

Do you mean BT Wholesale-who deal with their Broadband connection issues? If so, it's 0800 169 9576. I've left a detailed message on the 'mac code' thread in the Tiscali folder...but I'm in the same boat as you. But have no MAC code!

Any chance of passing on the number for Tiscali cancellations? I used 0870 744 9966, option 1 then option 5. And got through pretty quickly!

Re: MAC code issues - name and shame!

Well, there's not much that I can add to these Tiscali stories, mine being very much the same as everyone else here. We wanted to leave Tiscali for the free orange offer too. Wouldn't provide a MAC code ,so we cancelled on Nov 1st giving 1 months notice. Account was closed on Dec 1st and as of today ( Jan 20th ) we still have a tag on the line.Thats 7 weeks and still counting !!
Currently on pre-pay dial up !

What can i say similar story with TISCALI i've just lodged a 2 page letter of complaint to them ( not that I expect to get anywhere ) 3 weeks for a process that is supposed to take 5 working days Pah !. They are in contravention of the Broadband Service Provider Migration Code of Practice .. of all things I asked to speak to a manager in their call centre at 17:20 and was advised i couldn't speak to one as it was almost home time ??????. They then advised that BT line was set to closed ... piece of advice if your looking to move call the Guys at BT wholesale number is in this forum they are great helped me out by checking everything on the line and advising me they haven't even sent the request for the mac code

Re: MAC code issues - name and shame!

Compared to others on this thread, I have managed to extracate myself from Tiscali with remarkable ease.
    Please follow the link to thread in the Tiscali folder (Mac Code thread) if interested;

Re: MAC code issues - name and shame!

Whey hey I've finally managed to receive my Mac code not once but 3 times by e-mail... MY advise to Tiscali customers who are trying to move away is persevere you will get what you want eventually, although to get my end result I not only wrote a full letter of complaint last night to Tiscali advising them that I had lodged a formal complaint with ofcom. I also advised watch dog of the problems I was experiencing and what a surprise I called this morning to be told my problems were ongoing but by this afternoon after all official complaints had been lodged and looked at, miracles happen I now find the problems they had with my line have now been resolved ... am sure this was not just co-incidence

Re: MAC code issues - name and shame!

    Hi Jason
Currently with Plusnet, who tell me that I can't switch provider via MAC unless my new provider is in the reverse LLU scheme. Plus they take a minimum of 10 days to provide a MAC. Then the MAC is useless because it is not a standard BT one, so my new ISP can't do the transfer. Is there a date in place when all suppliers will have to conform and and issue a universally acceptable MAC?
Plusnet are charging me £21.99 per month for a service to which they apply limits to ensure "fair usage" This is absolute rubbish. I download no more than 40gb per month and find that half way through each month my speed is limited down to force me to compy. So much for unlimited broadband. So I would like to add PLUSNET to the name and shame list.

Re: MAC code issues - name and shame!

    Hi Jason,

I am difficulties obtaining a Migration Authorisation Code from PIPEX HOMECALL.

After several years with PIPEX HOMECALL 2MB broadband I was getting fed up with getting 200kbs at peak times when I was paying for 2000kbs. As I was out of contract and getting nowhere with my requests to Pipex tech support to sort out the speed problem, I decided to request my MAC code.

Here is the history so far:

5th Dec 2006 Requested MAC by telephone. Told it would be sent by post and would take 3 to 5 days.

13th Dec 2006 Requested MAC by email. Also added alist of reasons why I wanted to leave. Mostly slow speed issues at peak times.

16th Dec 2006 Received email reply form Pipex offering to upgrade my line to 8MB for an extra fee and this would enter me into a new 12 month contract. With my personal experience of poor service from PIPEX, a new 12 month contract did not appeal to me.

12th Feb 2007 Sent another email requesting my MAC.

19th Feb 2007 Recieved an email reply from Pipex stating that the provisioning department has been requested to send me a MAC code and I should receive with 5 days.

    2nd March 2007 Still waiting ....

So that is a whopping 86 days since I first requested my MAC and 11 days since they told me writing that I would receive my MAC within 5 days.

There have of course been numerous phonecalls but I have I only listed the dates of emails as I have them on file as proof. During phonecalls I have been told "it's in the post", "the MAC has been witheld because there is a billing issue on the account" (not true because I pay by Direct Debit and never missed a payment). Now they have told me in writing that I can have the MAC code they refuse to give it to me over the phone or send it by email saying "the MAC systems are down". When I ask the customer care reprentative if I can talk to someone more senior in the company they flat out refuse. All I can say to anyone thinking of joining PIPEX Homecall is expect to get 10% of the advertised broadband speed at peak periods, (Massive contention ratios) and a provider that does not take the Ofcom code of practice very seriously.
