Looking for cheaper gas & electric? Try Ebico - highly recommended!

If you are looking for cheaper gas and electric, from my experience, you may be able to save quite a bit with Ebico.

There's a simple tool on their website where you can enter your kWh's from your last gas and electric bills and it will tell you how much you would have paid if your supply had been with them.

I have been with them quite a while now and have even helped family and friends switch who haven't got internet access. Ebico have just increased their prices as from the 1st April 2008 for the first time in around 3 years but if you search any comparision sites, you will find they are still one of the cheapest and their customer service (actually operated by the Scottish and Southern Group) is second to none.

    Highly recommended!

I agree Dougs. I am with Ebico and the prices and customer services is very good. I have a card meter for my electricity and was putting about £20 a week on it with my previous supplier British Gas now with Ebico it's only £10 a week. I also save on my gas as well. I was paying £60 a month with Eon now I am paying £40 a month. They are still the cheapest for me even after the recent price increase. Very happy with them.

    Are these prices for real?

My NPower gas bill says they charge 6.5p per kWh, and Ebico says their price is 2.86p

    Am I missing something?

    Cheers,

No the prices are correct. What you are missing is that the companies that have a tier one rate of 6.5p will have a tier two rate that is less than Ebico's global single rate. If you have a low or medium usage Ebico can be a bargain. My bills are nearly half what they would be with the next cheapest supplier.

Yes these prices are for real!

If you read the 'about Ebico' and 'ethos' sections on their website it explains why they are different to the 'big boys' out there.

Have you tried their gas and electric price comparison tool on their website? All you need to do is enter the kWh's from your last bills with your current supplier and it will tell you how much they would have charged you. For the electric, you need to select which area you are in first.

Don't be put off that you have never heard of Ebico before, their supply partner is the Scottish and Southern Energy Group who handle all the billing, customer service, etc and Scottish and Southern according to Energywatch regularly score highly for customer satisfaction, etc.

Hope this helps save you some money!?

I must be doing something wrong. I'm currently looking to switch cus I thing Atlantic is expensive but Ebico want 11.13p per KWh for the midlands area 14 which is much more expensive than Atlantic.

Don't forget that's 11.13p including VAT and there's no standing charges with Ebico! How much is Atlantic and is it before or after VAT is added?

With the price increase and the vat unit price is 10.13p per KWh. I know Ebico don't have a standing charge and Atlantic do but I get a month 13 direct Debit refund which will mean my electric bill for the next 12 months will be £487.00 with Ebico it would be £534.24

Sounds like you must be one of the exceptions. I think the Ebico prices are more aimed at customers who do not want to pay by direct debit like I have a card meter for electric and some people like to pay their bill when they get it. Although I do pay direct debit for gas and have still saved £20 a month with them.

Good point actually. I only started paying by direct debit when I joined Atlantic and that was to get the discounts. Up 'till then I only ever payed quarterly on receipt of bill, which is how I would prefer to do it.

Yes you would probably find if you where currently paying quarterly on receipt of bill with Atlantic then you would be better off with Ebico. As you are paying direct debit, Atlantic obviously give you a discount for paying that way.

All I would suggest is review it again after Atlantic's next price increase as Ebico's recent increase is the first I've had in around 3 years!

PS, I pay quarterly on receipt of bill.

Now I have had another look, Ebico's prices are definately aimed more at customers who DO NOT want to pay by direct debit and favours customers who have pre-payments meter or who want to pay on receipt of bill.

Re: Looking for cheaper gas & electric? Try Ebico - highly recommended!

I too use Ebico, since July 2006 when the prices went up last before April 2008.

Have just checked on 3 comparison sites and after all recent price rises I find can still only save very small amounts indeed with other suppliers but may consider switching to the new BG fix 2011 deal as should only cost me some £19 pa more I am led to believe.

However, I have today spoken to SSE who are the suppliers Ebico use and was told that they do not have plans to increase thier rates and indeed they agreed to reduce my monthly DD gas payments from now on as am in front.

Will post what I find out from BG if I do contact them direct but must say anm very happy with customer sercice at SSE/Ebico.

As a Ebico customer I really do hope they do not increase their prices but everyone else has so surely they will do the same. Then again, they have only increased the price twice in the last three years while everyone else seems to put them up at least once a year!?

Re: Looking for cheaper gas & electric? Try Ebico - highly recommended!

Have just checked the Ebico web site and despite the increase by Scottish & Southern again in last week or so there is no mention of a price increase by Ebico since that in April.

Lets hope they keep to present prices. Indded just before the recent increase they sagreed to reduce my gas monthly payment by some £10 per month.
