    Longstay travel insurance

Hello! I have a holiday home in the Seychelles and my husband and i are booked to go out there for 6 months, we have booked our flights independently and will be living out there for the entire period.

We would want travel insurance to cover us up to a year and cover us for having booked independently what kind of insurance would you suggest?

    Re: Longstay travel insurance

    Hi

I think a long stay Travel Insurance which can cover a trip up to 365 days would be ok. On some of these you can specifiy if you are likely to return to the UK at any point before recommencing your holiday. Most companies have an age restriction on long stay policies of 65. If over 65, flexicover can cover up to 75 years of age according to their web site.

Check insureandgo and flexicover for their long stay policies. Long stay policies are widely available. I would check policy cover, premiums and perhaps call the company to seek additional reassurance that the cover is suited to your requirements.

Thanks for the advice, i'll check out long stay polices.

We used to have our insurance through insureandgo but were stolen from while we were away and they refused to pay out because we had not booked through a travel agent! any idea who else to try? i'll also give flexicover a go

Oh and we are under 65

I am not convinced that insureandgo refused claim for theft due to holiday not being booked through travel agent. Alot of holidays are booked independently these days and this would restrict their sales somewhat.

Thinking about the issue of you being away for 6 months, staying in your own property. The Insurers may think that you should have a Contents Insurance in the Seychelles and not rely on Personal Possesions type cover on a Travel Policy. Do you have your Contents in the Seychelles insured?

Another company you could try is pjhayman.

I would phone companies as I said previously to make sure policy is suitable. Make sure you note details of person you spoke to, date/time and note of what was agreed. Ask them to confirm in writing when you arrange policy.

Thanks for the information, we do have contents insurance and it would make more sense to explain the situation over the phone.
