Re: Loan and credit check query

The Credit Reference Agencies customers are the banks. You can complain, but be prepared for a battle. Every credit search recorded goes against you and reduces your credit score considerably if you check more than 6 in a month you could have your credit score HALVED.

Complain against a loan application delay

    Hi All,

I had made an application for a loan with Alliance and Leicester last thursday, which was approved and they had sent me the agreement letter, which i signed and returned on monday. On Monday I received another letter from them saying that my loan is rejected, on further investigation i found out that they require some documentation for me to confirm my identity and i send those documents to me, after which they were happy. They told me that my loan will be rekeyed and new documents will be sent out. I had a credit check done on me on 17.09.09, which was obviously wiht my consent because i applied for the loan.

After three days of waiting I checked my credit report today and I saw a credit check done on me again yesterday 24.09.09, and I called them up and after 30 mins of wait they told me my application is declined. They dint give me any reasons, and also avoided to answer when I asked them why my credit was checked twice, second time without asking me. she said that her team manager will call me back, which has happened yet.

I wanted to know if I can make a complaint to bank and what possibly could be the outcome. My issue is now I have two records of credit check on my account in just under a week, which will put off other lenders. what do you think is the best measure in this situation? I needed money badly this week, instead of money I have got heaps of troubles, phone bill for 0844 numbers and a week of anxious wait.

    thanks,

    Golu

Re: Loan and credit check query

I have checked the credit report again and it does say personal loan for both checks ( i assume it would come up as unrecorded enquiry if it is one ).

Re: Loan and credit check query

    learningtrade:

    1. Is it normal for them to do two credit checks ?

    2. Are they allowed to do a credit check without my consent,

    1. Perfectly normal as in SNAFU

    2. You consented but they should only have checked once for one application (assuming that both checks are credit checks and that one isn't an "unrecorded" identity or address check.

If they are both credit checks phone the Credit Expert help line and challenge one of the checks as a duplicate. That's all, no need to debate whether you consented. CreditExpert will contact A&L about the duplicate on your behalf. A&L "should" agree for the duplicate to be removed within 28 days.

In the unlikely event that A&L don't agree within 28 days you will need to complain formally direct to A&L and should you still be unhappy after 8 weeks take the A&L refusal to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

    Loan and credit check query

    Hi,

I applied for a loan last week thursday and I got a letter on sat saying that my loan is approved. After that I got a letter on monday saying that loan is not approved, so I called up alliance and leicester and found out that they are wanting to see some of my documents. I faxed them those docs and they were happy with that. The guy who had put a block said that he is happy and they wil send me a new agreement soon.

After that I have been waiting to hear anything back from them, and I checked my credit expert report this morning and I see that they have done an another credit check on me. So right now I can see two credit checks on my account for alliance and leicester 1. on 17.09.09 and 2 on 24.09.09.

    I have two questions:

    1. Is it normal for them to do two credit checks ?

    2. Are they allowed to do a credit check without my consent, I understand that i did consent for the 17.09.09 one because that is when I applied for the loan, but what about 24.09.09, do they really need to do another credit check a week apart?

    Please advise.

    Golu
