    Re: line rental?

    Hi Gregor

The short answer is for 95% of broadband products you need a BT phone line - this also means you have to pay line rental of some sort.

There are two other options - cable from Virgin Media OR you get a wireless data card from T Mobile (Web n Walk) and then you don't need a phone line.

If you want me to reccommend the best deals for you in your location let me know but I need your postcode?

    Re: line rental?

Thanks for your answer. Ok. I wonder what would be your recomendations. That's my postcode.: E15 4ND.

One more question. I would prefer to have a short term contract rather then 12 months. Does it mean that if I resign from my broadband service I still would have to pay for my BT line rental as they have 12 months contracts?

    Cheers

    Gregor

    Re: line rental?

    Hi Gregor

Ok you live 1.1km from your exchange, this means speed will be affected by distance, so on an up to 8Mb product you should get 4-6 Mb.

There's a few LLU providers in your exchange (Talk Talk, Be, Sky) plus cable (Virgin Media) but you can't get cable in your location at the moment.

On to the subject of the phone - you'll still have to get the line installed for £126 but there are now some deals where the cost is equivalent to having FREE line rental.

    These deals are:
    Talk 2 International - £5.89 a mth (£10.50 a mth line rental)
    Talk 3 International - £9.99 a mth (£10.50 a mth line rental)
    Tiscali 8Mb/Anytime - £19.99 a mth (no line rental)

OR you could pay the line rental and go with the best deal. For me the best deal in your location is with Be Broadband - they have two packages - Be Lite £14.99 a mth or Be Unlimited £24.99 a mth - you get 24Mb superfast speeds, but you also have to pay £10.50 a mth line rental which you can pay to Be instead but it's definitely the best product in your area right now.

    Cheers

    Re: line rental?

hi jason. I am in the currently in the same situation as Gregor. I have an unactivated phone socket in my house, and I am looking to get broadband, but for only 3 months, hence my reluctance to sign up with BT because of the 12 month minimum contract. I wouldnt mind a landline, but I am more interested in having fast broadband service, SHORT TERM . What do I do? My post code is po4 8ap. Thanks, Chika

    Re: line rental?

Get The Post Office to activate your line, no minimum term. Go to samknows.com and use the availability checker. You seem to have lots of choice but Newnet LLU or Be/O2 LLU would be the pick of the bunch. Short contracts with both on some packages.

Newnet would have the edge for their excellent support although not the cheapest.
