    Re: Less miles, higher premium?

    Graeme Delap:

Erik - To (try and) answer your question, it doesn't seem usual to me - but it would be helpful to know if you changed the details immediately - or did you run one quote and then change the details and refresh the quote an hour or more later?

n3mo is right in one sense - premiums do work differently - and insurers are constantly calculating and re-calculating their approach/attitude to risk - so quotes can and do change depending on the details you enter and amend (obviously).

However, it's still a little surprising that the quote marginally went up when you entered a lower mileage. If this quote was generated through our site, please feel free to drop me a line and I'll be happy to ask the boffins to look into it for you.

    I hope that helps,

Hi Graeme, thanks for your reply.

It was a telephone quote from John Lewis Insurance..I was asked what milage I wanted to cover so I said that I had existing cover for up to 9000 mls but may be only doing up to 7500 mls for the next 12 months. She said I will quote first for 9000 mls - £210, then she said I will change it to 7500 mls, hence £217 - so that was that. I said I will leave it at 9000 mls. I accepted the £210 quote as it bettered my renewal from Churchill by £42.

    Re: Less miles, higher premium?

Nicely put Graeme... manners cost nothing - unlike motor insurance which appears to be going up at a horrible rate of knotts!

I just took out my policy with Admiral for the second year, first time I've done that for years as it's always cheaper to swap.

I simply gave them what other providers were offering and the reduced the premium.

Erik - I did it over the 'phone and still got the best deal. Saves you worring about whether you've input the details correctly :-)

    Hi erik,

Fully agree - not the most polite reply, n3mo. Please take a look at our Community Standards if you haven't already (which you agreed to on signing up). We don't ask a lot from our members, but we're all adults trying to help each other out, so there's no good reason for anyone to be impolite.

    n3mo:

everyones premiums work differently. Usually the more you drive the more a risk you become hence higher premiums. maybe they want you to drive more or maybe being parked on the street is more of a libaility,

    Pointless question really,

    Thanks for your pointless reply.

    Less miles, higher premium?

Just a minor query. I have just had a quote for my car insurance of £210 with milage not exceeding 9000 miles. I then asked for a quote based on 7500 miles and the premium when up to £217. Is this normal or unusual?
