    DavieG:And no we don't get commission ;)

I've never heard of an insurance company that do not target sales staff on selling a legal expenses policy. If Kwik-Fit don't pay commission, there must be something wrong!

Thanks to all of your helpful advice on here.  Sorry its taken so long to come back to you.  I rang Kwik Fit the next day and the person I spoke to was more helpful than the one I spoke to the day before.  The lady agreed to refund the £30 back to my card and apoligised for taking it without my permission.

Ive decided to have the Legal Protection cover and after your help, Ive managed to buy one for £1.99 which looks just as good as the £30 one.

    Hi Natnat,

You would be well advised to have legal protection, although £30 does seem like a lot of money.

There's a currently a deal on at a site called matthewsguide.com that may interest you. They are offering a policy for £1.99

Currently working for Kwik Fit at the mo. Do you know which department you purchased the policy from? Did you call in for a quote. You have 14 days to cancel the Legal Cover Policy without charge. Can give you a hand if you know which department you bought it from? =)

    Hello

Just a general point here if you are a member of a trade union legal protection is usually a benefit of membership. It may not be relevant in this case still worth considering.

    Regards,

    Paul

Re: LEGAL PROTECTION ADDED ON WITHOUT MY CONSENT

My protection this year was £19.99 extra on the policy.

I dont think it is fair they added it afterwards. Did you pay by card in one payment, or are you paying by direct debit? If you paid upfront, try contacting your card issuer and explaining they took more than you agreed to. They may get it back for you as unauthorised payment.

I have looked on their website, and legal expenses is shown as 'extras' therefore, they should have advised you if they were adding it onto your policy, or you had requested it. Their key facts document shows what is covered by their legal expenses, so have a look and see what you think.

Interestingly enough, they state on the key facts that if you are not happy with it, you can cancel in 14 days and have the money refunded. SO go back, and refer them to their own T&C's- they probably get a commission for selling it, so thats why they are not too happy to refund. But stick to your guns!

Re: LEGAL PROTECTION ADDED ON WITHOUT MY CONSENT

Thanks for your help emsie.  It was added after the quote.  I did not ask for it and I dont think its fair.  I dont know if there is a cool off period but will look into it.  What is a reasonable price to pay for legal protection?  Do you mind telling me how much you paid for yours?

Ill ring Kwik Fit again and threaten to cancel to see if I get a better response.  The staff member who did the quote was much much friendlier than the staff member I spoke to to ask for the £30 to be taken off.  £30 is a lot of money to me.  The premium was only £176.

Re: LEGAL PROTECTION ADDED ON WITHOUT MY CONSENT

    Hi there-

Was the legal protection added after the quote was given (i.e. if the quote they gave you was £400 and that is what you have paid with the £30 included in the quote, or have they added the sum on top of the quote?)

The reason I ask this is that youcould do another quote for insurance and compare quotes- some of them may still be cheaper than KwikFit and you could contac thtem again and ask for a price match on your policy.

Maybe you can cancel under a 'cool off' period. If you threaten to do this, they may be more willing to help you.

It will depend how you generated your quote- online or over the phone etc. It is optional to take out; although I personally always have it as it protect you against uninsured drivers, accidents etc. Its peace of mind really but then as I said, you could have got a cheaper quote elsewhere for the same thing.

Legal protection has helped me a lot in the past as I always seem to get people driving into me(!) and they put you through to a solicitor, help with hire car company etc.

At the end of the day though, if you dont want it they should listen to you.

Hmm [^o)] LEGAL PROTECTION ADDED ON WITHOUT MY CONSENT

Ive just received my insurance policy from Kwik Fit and theyve added £30 for Legal Protection which I have not asked for.  Are they allowed to do this? Not even sure if I need it anyway.  Whats the point in having it?  Can I claim it back?

I spoke to them on the phone and they were persistent and didnt seem to want to give it me back.  I put the phone down on them they were so rude.  Any help appreciated thanks.
