To anyone eligible to join the CSMA (civil service motoring association) for free, then motoring legal expenses insurance cover is also free to it's members. Check your eligibility below.

Legal protection is fab at the right price but some insurance companies charge £35 which is totally ridiculous. You can get it for as little as £4.99 for virtually the same thing.

If you google matthews guide to motor insurance and look at their website which has free access at the moment, go into the section on legal cover and then click on legal cover again, it tells you all about it.

I think its well worth having if you can get it at the right price.

the problem is ifyou dont know what you can use it for people dont ask for things

it takes care of out of pocket expenses on a none fault claim:-

simple thigs like - excess after claim

    wages if your off work

phone calls hire car/transport/ court costs/

things people dont think of- if replacing car hpi check/ engineers check/anything that it takes to put you back in the position you were in before.

like any insurance if you use it its great if not you fel like youve wasted your money

    Hello Paul,

Thanks for your reply. You raise an excellent point. I will check my home insurance as this might cover me for legal disputes.

I guess it is one of those non-compulsary insurances that lacks in value when never used but gold dust on the rare occassion it might be needed to be called upon.

    Regards

Re: Legal Cover for motor insurance: Is it worth it?

    Good morning Darkstar,

Genuinely I think having legal protection is a good idea. For example disputes over damage, appearance at court etc and in my experience they have been added on as a freebie with my policy. When they haven't and it costs extra I've refused it why? because my trade unuon supply it as part of my Union fees. Therefore IMO it's better to have than not at all but check first that such cover isn't included with other insurances/ memberships of groups etc.

    Regards,

    Paul

Legal Cover for motor insurance: Is it worth it?

In the words of Holly Johnson, "What is it good for? Absolutely nothing?"

    What does it actually give?

Do you consider it to be of value?

    Do you take it out?

    Just interested.

    Thanks
