    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

I have been emailing everbody I can think of including a lot of the news agencies. I have also emailed my MP and the Chancellor. I am pretty sure the email address for all MP's is their last name followed by their 1st name initial @parliament.uk. So William Hague's address wiil be HagueW AT parliament.uk. I agree with all that has been said and suggest that the more of us that contact any relevant people the better.

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

I did make a details reply earlier, but now feel MORE & MORE agrieved, if we get no positive action, I am more than prepared in concert with others to get opinion of council with a view to taking on the States of Guernsey as in my personal opinion they are the 'Lender of Last Resort' aand were negligent in permitting this dreadful state of affairs to happen.

I am aware that this may cost, but unless this matter is resolved to all of our satisfaction we are all totally stuffed.

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

I'm the reporter who has written the stories regarding Landsbanki Guernsey entering into administration. In order to help the story continue to pick up pace i am hoping an action group will be set up. I know many of you have suggested such a group and lots of customers have emailed me with their stories.

I would strongly advise someone taking the bull by the horns and setting up a group. It would help boost awareness of customers' struggles and give media a contact point.

If anyone sets up an action group for Landsbanki Guernsey customers please contact me at jdewoolfson AT guernsey-press.com with phone numbers of members who are pushing this fight forward.

i also, of course, send my sympathies to you all.

    Regards

    Joel

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

Just listened to a financial expert on Victoria Derbyshire's show on 5 Live.

The expert said that the government set a precedent when they guaranteed the offshore accounts of Bradford and Bingley.

She also said that she had contacted the Treasury to find out and had yet to have a response.

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

I woud propose that we send the following as an open letter, publicise it as far as possible with the press and put it on the website to go live this afternoon. It do not want to act alone however especially in holding myself out as speaking for the "Landsbanki Guernsey Depositors Action Group", therefore I will only send this letter if I get a least ten responses below saying "LETTER YES".

    Dear Sirs,

    Landsbanki Guernsey Limited

As you are aware, Landsbanki Guernsey Limited was put into administration on Tuesday 7 October 2008. The response of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission to numerous enquiries from worried depositors has been simply to refer the matter to the administrators of the Bank. The Association of Guernsey Banks is yet to comment on the failure of one of its own members. This is in stark contrast to the decisive action taken by the authorities of other countries faced with similar situations over the past weeks of turmoil.

We understand that this situation has arisen due to the failure of an Icelandic bank however, Landsbanki Guernsey Limited is a bank registered in Guernsey and regulated by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission. It is therefore a proxy for the integrity of the Guernsey banking system as a whole and it is not acceptable for the Guernsey authorities to write this off as an Icelandic problem. The treatment of those who have trusted their savings to Landsbanki Guernsey Limited must hold true for all those with money deposited in any Guernsey bank.

We therefore call on the Guernsey Financial Services Commission and the Association of Guernsey Banks to take steps to immediately secure the savings of all those who put their faith and confidence in Guernsey as a financial centre. If it fails to act, Guernsey will stand alone amongst the financial centres of the developed world as being unable or unwilling to protect the savings of those who put their trust in it.

    Yours faithfully,

The Landsbanki Guernsey Depositors Action Group

Matt DB... RE the Letter YES...

Just had an email from BBC Radio 5, who are keeping me up to date as and when they hear things. As I wrote earlier, Victoria Derbyshire is following this story, and finding out if there is a way round the situation... Its good exposure.

RE 'compose'...BBC Radio 5 just emailed me to say the Money correspondent Pauline McCole said the Treasury extended protection to off-shore accounts in the Channel Islands for Bradford and Bingley and may come under pressure to do the same for all the other banks.
