Good point. We are in danger of becoming the forgotten few! I shall try and do likewise.

Yes. I live in Chile and we face a five figure loss. I'm miles from the action, but this is what the internet is for. I will be following your future mails closely and and I'm ready to help in whatever I can do

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

A suggestion. Can a Guernsey resident let us all have the emails, postal addresses and phone numbers of relevant Guernsey officials, Landsbanki officials, Guernsey journalists and relevant UK officials. A flood of angry letter from all over the world could be effective, especially if we have some sympathetic press contacts in Guernsey and the UK to move it along. We all agree that we need to make a lot of noise about this, the more the better.

Don't waste your time on emails / letters which will likely be ignored. Get on your phones, wherever you are, first thing in the morning UK time call Guernsey Financial Service Comission on:

    +44 1481 712706 (ask for banking)

...and demand answers. The more phonecalls they will get from desperate savers, the better.

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

Found the below news story cached on Google, obviously not available on the Landsbanki website anymore. Just so we know who were the directors.

    Steve Le Poidevin
    Managing Director
Tel. + 44 (not a valid number anymore)
E-mail: (not a valid email anymore)

    Guernsey - Wednesday, April 09, 2008

Landsbanki Guernsey has taken the next step in its development plans with the recruitment of Steve Le Poidevin as Managing Director and Steve Chandler as Operations Director. Both were formerly with Portman Channel Islands in the same roles.

The recruitment of the new team marks a broadening of the business focus, with the imminent launch of a new account range of retail and corporate accounts in Sterling, US Dollars and Euros combined with market leading interest rates.

Steve Le Poidevin comments: "We are both delighted to be joining the Landsbanki Group at this time. We are excited at the opportunity to drive this business forward and we believe that there are real opportunities for Landsbanki, 2008 will be a very progressive year with the introduction of our online banking service, and the launch of corporate banking. We will be putting in place the infrastructure and team to help us achieve our plans"

"We are very fortunate to have secured the services of both Steve's, says Mark Sismey-Durrant, Chairman of Landsbanki Guernsey. Their experience in the local and offshore markets will help us to rapidly build our business and provide a significant future contribution to the Landsbanki Group".

Mark Sismey-Durrant, Chief Executive of Heritable Bank and Managing Director of Icesave, holds a BSc (Hons) in Banking and Finance (1981) and an MPhil in International Banking and Economics (1983), both from Loughborough University of Science and Technology. He has headed Heritable Bank in London since 2002, prior to which he joined Sun Bank plc in 1990, becoming CEO and Executive Chairman of Sun Bank plc, Sun Bank Offshore Ltd and also an Executive Board Director of the UK subsidiaries of Sun Life Financial of Canada (1999-2001). He spent his early career between 1978 and 1990 in Midland Bank (now HSBC) in the UK, working in a variety of retail, international and corporate banking roles up to senior management level. Besides serving as Chairman of the Board of Key Business Finance, a Heritable subsidiary acquired in 2005, he was appointed a Board Director of Landsbanki Guernsey Ltd in 2006 and was Chairman of Landsbanki International Capital Ltd in Guernsey between 2002 and 2003. He is a BBA Board and Council Member, Chairman of the British Bankers Association Small Bank Advisory Panel, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Design and Manufactures. He was appointed Chairman of the British-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce in 2008.

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

I agree with previous posts. We need to make as big a noise about this as possible. We also need to emphasise strongly ti the Guernsey authorities that their economy will be in tatters if confidence in their finance insustry if a speedy and satisfactory conclusion is not found. They should be looking at ALL options in order to resolve this situation.

Would also suggest writing to politicions in depositors home countries to emphasise how their nationals have been hung out to dry. I know in the UK you are entitled to vote even after leaving the country.

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

    Morning all,
Thank you to all who have posted contact details etc on the forum. As a Jersey resident with a big chunk of my savings threatened, my feeling of panic and isolation has been massively helped by knowing which people to lobby etc.

If anyone needs Jersey contacts (not sure if this will help, even if you live in Jersey)..

    Jersey Financial Services Commission
    Telephone: +44 (0)1534 822000
    E mail: info AT jerseyfsc.org

Jersey Finance - non profit organisation acting as communications hub for finance
    Tel: +44 (0) 1534 836000
    Email: info AT jerseyfinance.je

I guess the more of us who contact more people, the harder it is for us to be forgotten.

    Good morning all

It would be great if you could arrange a face to face meeting, although I am not sure I will be able to travel fro the UK for it as with a lot of my money tied up in the bank spending is going to have to be curbed somewhat!

Thanks to all of you that have provided contact details for various people, I for one will be firing off emails to all this morning.

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

I was sent the following email by the Managing Director Steve Le Poidevin on Friday the 3rd of October (the day before the bank was put into administration on Monday the 7th of October). His response is to my question about how secure is our deposit with Landsbanki Guernsey.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for your recent email.
At the present time Guernsey banks are not covered by an investors protection scheme, however, plans are in place to introduce a scheme in 2009. Whilst a scheme does not exist in Guernsey, our parent Landsbanki Islands hf has given an undertaking to discharge those liabilities of Landsbanki Guernsey Limited which Landsbanki Guernsey Limited is unable to discharge from its own assets, whilst it remains a Landsbanki subsidiary.

I have listed a few pertinent points that I hope bring you comfort.
    · The group holds €31.9 billion of assets as of 30.06.08
    · Landsbanki has diversified revenue and income streams.
    · We have diversity by sector – Retail and Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Capital markets services, asset management and wealth management.

    · We have a conservative bias towards lending- 63% of all loans are funded by customer deposits. This is similar or better than many other bank UK or foreign banks.

    · We are based in 16 countries
    · We have a light loan repayment of just €855m for H2 2008 and H1 2009 against liquid assets of €8 billion
    · The Icelandic regulator on the 23rd August 2008 announced that after routine but stringent stress test of the banking system, Landsbanki is strong enough to withstand a severe shock to the financial system, because of its strong capital ratios.

If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.
    Best regards
    Steve Le Poidevin

    Email received this morning:

Landsbanki Guernsey Ltd. has gone into administration. Control of the Company has been passed to the Administrator, Mr Rick Garrard of Deloitte and

Touche LLP who will make all decisions going forward. The appointment of the Administrator will help ensure orderly repayment to depositors seeking

The Icelandic or UK Deposit Protection Schemes do not cover deposits of Landsbanki Guernsey Ltd. At present there is no Deposit Protection Scheme in

    place in Guernsey.

The timing and amount of distribution of funds to depositors is currently uncertain. Depositors will be updated as soon as the Administrator has clarity in

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

Ladies & Gentlemen I am so glad that I have found this site and I am in the process of reading all the info available and I will support any action that you guys propose. As a concerned investor I E Mailed Landsbanki some 12 months ago to obtain some reassurance and on the basis of the reply I received I reinvested. I have listed the reply that I received below and in my opinion its was at best misleading if not criminal.Dear Mr Thank you for your email my apologies for the delay in our reply.Landsbanki has no exposure to the US sub-prime market. In fact, Landsbanki is very well placed to continue its growth despite the international trend among banks to tighten credit. Our risks controls and policies came under scrutiny and were tested with rigour more than 18 months ago when the international analyst community openly questioned the foundations of the Icelandic financial sector. As a result, Landsbanki now operates under even stricter controls than are required by the regulators and the market. We trust this clarifies your enquiry.Regards

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

We will be firing off emails today as well - why should we be the only depositors not supported/compensated?

We have lost a five figure sum.

We will also lobby the UK and EU banking ombudsmen and our local MP.

    Re: Landsbanki Guernsey

    Ladies & Gentlemen,

From what I understand there are over 2000 customers in the same boat as all of us!

If we dont get some action soon I suggest useing direct action as stated below!

Depending on what you guys think ,it may be worth gaugeing support for putting an advert in a major Uk paper i.e Telegraph/FT
with an add somthing like this
" Are you aware banking in the Channel Islands could seriously damage your wealth"
And site the 2000 disaffected Landsbanki customers!!!!
This would surley make the authourites sit up and take notice!

I am currently in South Africa but plan to travel up to the Uk in the next few days if you are having a meeting I would certainly like to be involved!
