Re: Kaupthing Edge - UK savers

I arranged to transfer a small sum on Monday 27th October 2008 by BACS, by late yesterday afternoon the transfer had not taken place so naturally concerned I sent ING an email. Today I looked at my receiving bank account and yes the money had been transferred but the quote said CHAPS.

Now I have returned to my ING / Kaupthing account and as of now they have not charged me for the CHAPS transaction.

That suggest some funny business - what do you think?

    kennyb,

Thanks for your advice, but who would I threaten to sue? Kaupthing or ING? The latter denies responsibility - the former just does not respond, and happens to be a foreign outfit in administration.

I am now perusing the forum on the moneysavingexpert.com there seems to be a huge number of people in the same nightmare as me but numbers mean strength and we may have more chance of forcing KE/ING hand.

I will still try your tactic of a pressure letter - more irons in the fire cant do any harm. By the way, how would I go about issuing a court summons on the internet?

Re: Kaupthing Edge - UK savers

Save all your paperwork confirming your withdrawal request.

Write a letter headed without prejudice and outline your requests for your money back.

State that if its not received within 7 days you will sue them through tjhe small claims court.

Send the letter by recorded delivery.

Its so easy to issue a court summons on the internet.

Just watch how quick you get your money.

Re: Kaupthing Edge - UK savers

Well my wife made a small withdrawal of about £250 on 21 October 2008 and it was received into our linked account on 23 October 2008. I was quite surprised in view of the fact that they still owe me £11K which was withdrawn on 7 October 2008. Maybe it was something to do with this date of 7 October2008 - or maybe it was just that they can afford to pay out £250 but not £11k.

Or am I just being cynical

There are many more people who are still awaiting payment and their details and postings are on another website forum. People on this moneysupermarket forum must have all been paid out becuase its all gone quiet here.

You will see much more detail of peoples' experiences and what they are doing about it on the moneysavingexpert forum.

Re: Kaupthing Edge - UK savers

This is an absolute disgrace. As as Dutch person I am ashamed and sympathise with the rest of the forum. Luckily, I did get reunited with my money after 2 weeks of stress and getting nowhere.

Perhaps going to radio and TV programmes like Watchdog and Working lunch may be an idea. I am not sure if they are aware that KE/ING direct problem is still ongoing.

On a slightly separate note, has anyone actually tried to transfer money from KE/ING Direct in the past 4 or 5 days and have the money actually arrived into your designated accounts. I have money with KE/ING and simply afraid to initiate any transfers at the moment.

The very best of luck to all of you who are still waiting for the money. Fingers crossed !

Re: Kaupthing Edge - UK savers

You are absolutely accurate in describing this situation as a "nightmare". I am so relieved to have stumbled across this forum in a search on GOOGLE. I was beginning to think that I was alone in my nightmare with Kaupthing Edge/ING.

I have two accounts one of them fixed term until February next year, and one variable deposit. On 7 October 2008 I withdrew all funds from the variable account and received confirmation of the withdrawal. The funds disappeared from my statement but have yet to appear in my linked account.

I have endeavoured to find out where these funds are and I have been "shuttled" between the two of them (KE & ING) for the last two weeks - each one blaming the other. Each time - I have to go through the excruciating procedure of "identity security" and I believe that they deliberately mispell the memorable words which are then rejected so that you have to go through the whole procedure again. The object of the exercise being to take you to such a height frustration that you will give up in despair and leave them in peace.

I have sent messages to KE on their encrypted message faciility and have not received one reply or any response in two weeks, despite their claimed policy to respond to messages withhin 24 hours.

Today in a telephone call to ING (who I also bank with seperately) I was told that they (ING) have cleared all outrstanding funds from Kaupthing Edge. She checked again while I was on the phone and confirmed that there were absolutely no further amounts outstanding. Tah ING had cleared everything up to date. She said that any other funds outdtand by Kaupthing had not been divulged to ING and that therefore it was down to Kaupthing Edge to sort out. She urged me to contact KE again and relay her comments.

I have contacted KE again but I just get the "all agents busy" story and a recorded message. I have desptched yet another message via their encrypted message facility but I do not hold out any hope of any response.

These people have taken more than £10k of my money and cannot tell me where they have hidden it. Yet they are still offering banking facilities and savings schemes on their site, How can they get away with this.

Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions as to who we can go to to get our money back? Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling triumphantly claimed that our savings in Kaupthing Edge are SAFE. Then again they have told us many things in the recent past that we can now take with a pinch of salt.

I agree with the last post that ING, being covered, could easily settle with all of us and then resolve the problems between themselves and Kaupthing or the UK or Dutch Government who have both proudly proclaimed that the savings of their countrymen were covered.

Re: Kaupthing Edge - UK savers

There may be little hope of an early resolution.

The Kaupthing Edge/ING nightmare isn't yet over for many of us, who are still awaiting payment from transfer made on or around 7 October. Although ING have taken over KE and say on their website that outstanding payments have been cleared, I know that statement is not true.

KE still cannot identify some of the the missing money and have still not contacted all the account holders whose payments are missing. I believe that they do not have a list of affected accounts from their own data - they are relying on telephone calls form customers to tell them from which accounts the money is missing. They are even losing records of customers who officially register a missing payment who ring later to check on progress to be told that there is no record of the call.

They are unable to say when the money will be paid but say on their website that the problem has been resolved.

I will not sleep properly until our money is out of ING Direct who imply that they cannot pay out because the Administrators are preventing them or because clearing banks won't honour the transaction.

After all, ING could elect to pay customers out from their resources and balance up their KE-ING paperwork after. It doesn't choose to because as a customer, you are not KE/ING's priority. My wife and I can vouch for that.

Re: Kaupthing Edge - UK savers

    Hi

I am new to this forum, I was one of the unlucky blighters who has money in Icesave.

My enquiry today is that quoted by cjbrown.

Monday I transferred some money from Kaupthing, the first time since the takeover by ING. Now I know it is early 10.40am but it has not as yet reached my account - has anyone else had a problem.

I am holding my breath on this one

Many thanks to anyone who can give me some hope!

Have a look at the Kaupthing website and click on latest update from ING. Says they will be refunding CHAPS fees where transfers took too long and adding interest.

Re: Kaupthing Edge - UK savers

HOORAYYYYYY. Financial viable, at least for a while. Opened an account with NatWest - 6.6% for one year, calculated daily and paid monthly.

Yes, I have been charged the £20 CHAPS which is a damned cheek but perhaps, as a gesture of goodwill, they'll refund this? On one side I think that it is only £20 but then again if you add them all up, it's quite a sum.

Glad the situation is finally over.

Good luck to everyone else - hope your monies come through soon. And thanks for everyone's comments.

Re: Kaupthing Edge - UK savers

YIPEE!. Friday 25th 9-35am and my money has turned up in my linked account. Big sigh of relief. I've opened a branch account with Brad. & Bing and will make sure I never have more than 50k in Santander run banks. (not difficult).

OK so I'm not getting the best interest rate but I can queue up at the branch to get my money if neccessary. The way I look at it is that B&B have already gone bust so they should be safe now.

I don't know if I've been charged the £20 for CHAPS which would be a damned cheek but I'm just glad to escape from internet banking and the Kaupthing Edge/ ING debacle.

Re: Kaupthing Edge - UK savers

hi cj brown - Basically you just log into your account in the normal way then initiate the transfer of the balance left in the account. Because you are moving all the funds it will then ask you to tick a box if you want to close the account. All transfers are by BACS unless you opt for CHAPS and are prepared to pay the CHAPS fee of (I think) about £20.

Re: Kaupthing Edge - UK savers

You're fortunate that you were with KE UK and can still access your account, I was with KE Isle or Man and read the writing on the wall and transfered £320k on the 6th October with no problems but was told that to keep the account open I would have to leave £1000 in it, that is now frozen pending the outcome of the court hearing on Friday, I have since been told that I didn't have to leave the money in to keep the account open. I am delighted for everyone who are at long last recieving their money.
