I have had a look at elec consumption and you are using about 13 KWH a day, this does not look excessive considering you have a fish tank and tumble drier, in general appliances that generate heat use more electricty.

In relation to the direct debit, if you have a underpayment on the account paying this off would reduce the instalment amount

Im with EDF and in a 2 bed flat, with 1 other occupant. I pay a little under £60 a month for total electricity and gas. I'm surprised you are paying so much. Are you taking advantage of discount given for paying by direct debit?

Well, I live in a new build 2 bedroom duplex apartment (3 people in total), and the bill for electricity was £578.00 and we used about 4,400 units (we are all electric). We don't use our central heating that much (and not at all after receiving the bill!) and are careful with switching everything off. Even with switching everything off at the plug and no heating, our average unit use it 15 units a day. It was 48 units a day last quarter!!

There are are quite a few people with very high energy bills from EDF for the last quarter.

Small flat, Scottish Power, gas and electricity currently £65/month averaged over the year. Electricity similar to mine if you take off the fish tank. So £100/month over the last 3 months seems reasonable. Doubt it will be £100/month for the next 3 months. Don't trust the £94 DD SP has imposed on you. Likely to be high over the year. They're probably at it.

Couple of things you need to add to your list

    (1) Water heating whether by gas or electricity

    (2) The electricity consumed by the boiler

Are the readings for 20/11/08 and 18/02/09 both actual reads or are one or other estimates? Can't do a proper comparison without doing that.

Also its useful to convert the gas usage to KWHr. Not easy but the bill explains how.

Is my bill avarage for a 1 bedroom flat?

    Hello

Im just looking for opinions from people living in similar sized properties as Im concerned about my consumption. Below are details of my flat.

    SINGLE OCCUPANCY - SHIFT WORKER
When I am at home, Im usually watching tv or trying too sleep. Usually Im out!

    PROPERTY
    1 bedroom
Double glazed with insulation (so well insulated that heating is on only when it is REALLY cold!)
Located in Southend-on-Sea, Essex (It doesnt get that cold down here!)

    GAS
    Gas Heating and cooker

    ELECTRIC
4 lighting fitting all with energy efficient bulbs (20w).
    Laptop
    TV with dvd
    1 power shower
    A rated fridge
    A rated freezer
A rated washing machine (Laundry is done once a week)
    tumble dryer
200l fish tank with filter, light and small heater

    Last 3 Month bill
    20/11/08 - 18/02/09
Electricity - 1220 units (KWh) costing about £140
    Gas - 160 units costing about £160

My combined gas and electricity bill from Scottish Power is approximately £300 over 3 months (£100/month)

Im more bothered with the electric charge as over winter I expected the biggest consumption to be gas! Wat do you think? Scottish Power provide both gas and electricity on a direct debit that they put up to £94 (not enough to cover supposed consumption).

I know everyone lives in different houses but a one bed flat is still a one bed flat so Im just after a general conparison.

    Mant Thanks!
