Is it true that 'ALL' bank employees can access anything about you?

I've just heard that any bank employee can access your full account, including activities, transfers, credit scoring etc just by entering first and surname into their system (providing you bank with them). I thought employees needed at least 2 (or more?) pieces of information before they can open your account details, unless they open by sort-code and account number.

I`ve worked for three banks and each of them allowed a simple surname and initial search. Once that search identified the right person then pretty much all of the information you asked about was available. For very senior managers there was supposed to be a software fix that flagged up any member of staff trying to get access to their banking details. It was/is a disciplinary offence to do it but I know lots of people who did.
