    Re: insurance payout and settlement

You wouldnt have to pay for the remainder of the policy as you are then technically insuring a car up until the point of renewal which is illegal as the car is no longer in existance.

You should be able to either change the vehicle on the policy to a new one, or cancel with effect from now, but you may have to pay a cancellation charge - this is normally mentioned in the policy booklet.

    insurance payout and settlement

    hi

i was wondering if someone could clear something up for me. my car insurance was with Direct Line and last month they wrote my car off after an accident and they payed out on my settlement. when i took out my policy i opted to pay monthly and only had 4 months left to pay. then today i received a letter from them telling me that they want the remainder of my policy paid by 28 october. obviously if this is the way it works then i will pay but i was just wondering if it is ok to still pay insurance for a car thet they wrote off

    thanks

    Sandy
