iam:Hello,
Sorry for the trivial question, but a leak from my property has damaged the property below and the owner has asked for details of my insurers. I'm happy to supply these, but should I give only the name of the company or include my actual policy number? I'm not sure how private the policy number is.
Thanks
iam
If you have not been negligent in any way, then they cannot claim off your Insurance. They will have to claim off their Home Insurance and their Insurers might see if they can try to reclaim their outlay from your Insurers. If you provide your Insurance details, the neighbour should just pass on to their Home Insurers.
Negligence would be such things, as knowingly letting water leak out a pipe or apparatus, that you knew was faulty. So if you had a faulty washing machine and you knew that it leaked every time you used it, then you either you don't use it or get it repaired.
You should not admit any negligence to the neighbour, even if you have been. Under the terms of your Insurance, it is only your Insurance company who can accept any liability, after they have found out the facts from you.
