Re: Insurance demanding extra for commuting.

It is important that the Insurance is arranged on the correct basis, so really she should speak to the Insurers. The Insurance should be registered at the address where she is normally resident (most of the time). If the Insurers insist on the Uni address being added, then yes this might cost more than the extra they are trying to charge for commuting. The important thing is to have the information corrected, so that you don't have problems with future claims.

    Insurance demanding extra for commuting.

My duaghter who is university student brought a VW golf 53 plate last year for about £2000 last year and at the time registered it under my name. She insured it under her name for about £1650 and had me as a named driver in case I needed to drive the car for maintenance. She had an accident about a fornight ago where an elderly gentleman pulled away from the kerb and attempted to do U-turn and scraped the passenger side of her car. my daughter spends half her week living near the university and drives back on Thursday as she has part time job for the weekend. As the car is registered under my name the insurance company assumed she was commuting between University and home and demanded another £40 plus £25 admin fee before proceeding with her insurnace claim. Should I challenge the insurance company as I am annoyed that charging for commuting to university is taking the michael or they likely to increase it even more when they realise she is living away from home half the week.

    Any advice much appreaciated.
