I'm going to Italy for 5 months

I'm going to Italy for 5 months to work and I need to ensure my belongings that I take out with me i.e. lap top, digi cam, video camera, skis etc who would be the best value for money as I don't seem to be getting anywhere apart from health care insurance which I already have.

    Cheers

Have you asked your company's HR team if they can extend their insurance policy (if it's not already covered)? The fact that you are overseas for 5 months with, what appears to be, a few high valued items is probably prohibiting your chances of success.

No travel insurance policy is going to cover this. Your house insurance may well do, or will certainly have the provision to cater for this but you must check the constraints and limitations to ensure you're fully covered.

OR, and I don't usually give such an option but you seem genuine, you need to call a few insurance companies whilst ensuring the telephone call is being recorded and request home insurance quotes with these added for worldwide cover (or contact your own with the intention of adding additional cover). Give them full description of what you are taking and the purposes as to why you are taking them (ie. for work). Ask them if it gives you longer than 90 days cover overseas as you're likely to be going over for 5 months. Some agents will not know, and won't be bothered to look for the answer or ask anyone and, for the purchase of the policy, they will probably tell you 'yes, it's covered'. A loss occurs, they say 'not covered', you forward the call on and bang... you're paid out by the insurer or broker's PI insurance policy. ;o) !

Don't do this all the time though. You'll be on a list somewhere lol.

thank you very much for this information and for getting back so quickly...just one final question, would you have any compnay that you could recommend as value for money that would be worthwhile me looking at. Again thank you for your time.

You need to approach high net worth companies or companies that offer significantly higher values than the norm. I'd suggest using a broker that has access to a panel of insurers who will cater for this. The insurers you want to look at are those like Aon or approaching a broker who will then approach a Lloyds Underwriter.

mattdbadger; will you really be away for the full 5 months? If you return even for only a weekend then you restart the maximum duration for travel cover to another 90 days.
