Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

Thank you! Good luck to you too. Yeah, they shouldn't confuse me like that, my kid was expecting his game consoles back as well when they said they will replace. I am just have to try to negotiate for a fair settlement. At least my door is fixed, I feel safe now.

So they could then do the same thing to me. Its an odd way to agree something then say actually your not covered enough????? They should tell you this from the very begining. I will let you know how I get on. Good luck x

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

Like I said will have to wait for the jewellery valuation. Wow,over £4k just on the small electrical items? You're lucky then, maybe 10k is the most they will pay you in a claim, so if your total lose is under 10k than your safe.

Well, at first they said they will replace all the electricals and will send them out soon but later they said they can't due to that I am underinsured. I don't know, I reckon they are trying not to pay me in full because I had nearly all the receipts. See what they say when they ring me next.

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

They said the large electrical items they have to get valued by the company they used to replace them. They will replace all of these and also the Jewellery. If I decide I dont want any thing replaced I can have the value in cash but at whatever price they would have paid for the items. The cash settlement was for the smaller electrical items and misc items. They didnt reduce any of the payments included in the cash settlement either.Did you sort out the reduced insurance yet?

What's the cash for? Is it from items they cant replace? I am just getting my jewellery valued first then they will give me a cash settlement. Wonder why your insurer doing it the other way round?

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

Hi Kary the insurance people contacted me said they will pay me 4700 cash and the rest from their suppliers. Whatever I dont want I can get it in cash at the suppliers price. I have since been contacted by the jewelers who want a list so they can value it. Nothing said about under insurance or additionl premium. How about you?

Well, if you are paying same as everyone else that's getting 50k limit then you should get the same policy.

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

Halifax insurance on contents now is up to 50K so you cant under insure. I will ask them why it doesnt apply to me. It proberly only applies to new customers.I spoke with the finaicial omnibus all ready. They said it should be challenged. I will wait and see what they say anyway.

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

They normally tell you when they offer u a figure but if they offer cash that's mostly the case.

They were supposed to sent out some electricals at first then they said they can't because the underinsured issue. Any house that's insured less then 35k to them will most probably underinsured, they reckon it should be insured for 35k to 40k at least. Not sure about yours because you said total is10k, I didn't know they would offer contents insurance cover this low, it could be just high risk items insured 10k.

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

Well, they said they are going to pay out after the jewellery valuation but kept saying I am not fully covered, I asked and they said because the sum insured is low and they will pay cash, normally they replace the goods and give you vouchers. She said the sum insured was low from day 1 when she came out anyway, I kinda guesses.

Why don't you ask them if they are going to replace new for old then you will know.

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

You mean they are offering you cash? Same with me because they can't replace the goods due to underinsured, don't know about yours though.

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

Dacouch I called the insurers today and asked the psoition with my claim i.e any enquiries. They said its all complete I need to send the the rest of receipts the loss adjuster asked for and I should hear from them with a settlement figure. Is this correct as they have not said anything to me about being under insured the door lock or any problems. I find this odd. When they say settlement can they challenge it being underinsured at this point. Also I thought Halifax used their suppliers to purchase the goods. Im starting to think something is wrong.
